About Lihir

Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Your Impact

 

As a Supervisor – Asset Management, you will lead your team to safely deliver planned production outputs while maintaining high standards across safety, quality, and performance. Your leadership will directly influence team culture, operational efficiency, and plant reliability across a complex fixed plant environment.

You will play a key role in driving proactive safety behaviours, developing team capability, and ensuring maintenance activities are executed effectively across crushing, grinding, flotation, and associated process plant systems. Through strong leadership and decision-making, you will support business targets while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

As Part of Our Team, You Will
  • Lead and promote a strong safety-first culture through visible leadership, coaching, and safety interactions
  • Deliver agreed production and maintenance outcomes in line with plans and Superintendent expectations
  • Set clear goals and performance standards for your team aligned with operational strategy
  • Supervise, coordinate and assign daily tasks to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently
  • Monitor team performance, ensuring compliance with procedures, policies, and safe systems of work
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to build team capability
  • Engage and collaborate with peers, planners, and support teams to achieve site objectives
  • Participate in shift handovers, reporting, and maintaining accurate records of key events
  • Identify, escalate, and manage risks, delays, and operational issues impacting performance
  • Drive cost efficiency, identifying opportunities for savings and minimising waste

Prerequisites for Your Success in This Role
  • Minimum Grade 12 education with a Mechanical Trade Qualification (essential), NATTB Trades Certificate in Maintenance Fitting highly regarded
  • Current PNG Driver’s Licence
  • 3–5 years’ experience in fixed plant maintenance, ideally within mining or heavy industry, with demonstrated progression into leadership or supervisory responsibilities
  • Proven experience leading teams in a safety-critical environment, including conducting safety interactions, coaching, and incident reporting/investigation
  • Strong hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance, including fitting, machining, fabrication, pump rebuilds, pipe fitting, and HDPE welding
  • Solid technical knowledge of hydraulic systems, pumps, valves, crushers, mills, and conveyor systems
  • Strong understanding and application of safe systems of work, PNG Mine Safety Act, and site HSE frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise, and supervise work, ensuring quality and productivity targets are met
  • Effective communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence diverse teams
  • Proven ability to coach, develop, and manage performance while fostering a positive and accountable team culture
  • High level of organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving, continuous improvement, cost control, and waste reduction
  • Ability or willingness to obtain mobile equipment tickets (e.g. forklift, gantry crane

This role is offered on a 28:14 Day / Night Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster to Lihir Island, PNG.

Our FIFO employees stay in a secure and comfortable camp, in an en-suited and airconditioned room equipped with mini fridge, TV and Wi-Fi. A variety of healthy meal options are catered for at our mess; and the wet mess provides a relaxed social setting where employees can unwind with a game of pool or darts.
