Senior Backend Engineer, Operations Alliance (f/m/x)

Warszawa, Masovian Voivodeship, Poland June 9, 2026 Smartrecruiters

Work with HelloFresh in Warsaw and its HelloTech organisation, HelloFresh’s global technology backbone with more than 1000 people, building the digital products that power our end-to-end food experience. From meal kits and ready-to-eat meals to specialty offerings like pet food and premium meat & seafood, HelloTech creates the platforms that bring tailored food solutions to millions of customers every month.

Our subscription-based, direct-to-consumer model relies on technology at every step, from customer-facing apps and personalization logic to pricing, forecasting, supply chain optimization, and initiatives that help reduce food waste. While our brands operate independently to serve distinct customer needs, they are united by shared platforms, data, and operational excellence built by HelloTech.

HelloTech works in autonomous, cross-functional alliances, each owning a specific product or domain end to end. By working with our Warsaw office, you will help shape scalable, data-driven products used across our markets, working with a modern tech stack and international teams to continuously improve how people discover, order, and enjoy HelloFresh’s products, today and in the future.

About the role: What's in the Box

The Logistics Tribe, a part of the Operations Mega Alliance, builds the systems behind end-to-end delivery: getting ingredients into our facilities, giving customers the best delivery options the network can support, and tracking every box to the customer's door.

As a Senior Product Engineer collaborating with us on a B2B basis, you will design and build operations-heavy, business-critical systems alongside a cross-functional engineering environment. You care about the problem as much as the code, and the problems here are physical: trucks, warehouses, delivery windows, and the constraints of a real network. You will turn those into systems that hold up in production, extending what we already run and bootstrapping new services where it makes sense.

You will work closely with business stakeholders, product managers, and other engineers, owning complex technical problems end to end. We expect clear communication and real accountability for outcomes.

Above all, we are looking for a strong engineer who is genuinely interested in physical-world and supply-chain problems: someone who wants to understand how the operation actually works, map it accurately to systems, and stand behind the result.

What you’ll do: The Recipe

  • Collaborate engineering-wide: Contribute your expertise alongside a cross-functional team of 4 engineers where your technical opinions carry weight and your work visibly moves outcomes forward.
  • End-to-End Ownership: Architect, build, deploy, and operate solutions together with the product manager and business stakeholders, owning the technical delivery end to end.
  • Domain Alignment: Spend time understanding the logistics operation itself, not just the code, so you can model it correctly and make decisions stakeholders trust.
  • Technical Reference: Hold a deep understanding of the core product and architecture, and act as a technical point of reference for colleagues.
  • Tech Stack Execution: Work with Go, Python, Kafka, Kubernetes, Spark, Terraform, and the rest of our stack to run services reliably in production. There's still a small bit of PHP around from earlier days; we're gradually retiring it, and you'll help shape what replaces it.
  • Drive Innovation: Drive complex problems from a rough idea through to something deployed and operated, using AI tooling and solid engineering practices where they genuinely help.

What you’ll bring: The Ingredients

  • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in at least one programming language (Go is a plus), with strong testing habits and comfort with BDD: you describe behaviour from the stakeholder's point of view and let that drive integration and functional tests.
  • Architecture: Experience with event-driven microservices on Kubernetes and Kafka, deployed through CI/CD.
  • Data Stores: Comfortable with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and object stores (AWS S3).
  • Delivery Focus: A bias for delivery: you ship in small iterations and keep systems running, not just designed.
  • Domain Passion: Genuine interest in the problem domain. You want to understand the logistics operation, ask the stakeholders the awkward questions, and model the messy real-world cases rather than the happy path.
  • Knowledge Sharing: You learn from your peers and help them level up, sharing what you know without making a show of it.
  • Observability: Familiarity with monitoring and alerting (Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog) and an instinct for operating what you build.
  • Pragmatic AI: You use AI tooling pragmatically: it speeds you up where it helps, and you know where it doesn't.
  • Integration Experience: Practical experience integrating third-party vendors, APIs, and external systems (carriers, B2B partners, or similar).

Above all, we are looking for individuals who will make HelloFresh better. We believe there are many different ways of developing skills and we love diverse experiences! So even if you don’t “tick all the boxes” but think you’d thrive in this role, we would really like to learn more about you.

What we offer: The Toppings

  • Global collaboration at scale: Collaborate with experienced engineers and product partners across HelloTech’s international teams, in a culture of active knowledge sharing.
  • Technology with real-world impact: Build and operate modern systems at global scale, supporting 6+ millions of customers and complex supply chain operations.
  • Technical/Product/Design leadership: Drive best practices and influence architecture/design, quality, and ways of working in an autonomous, product-led setup.
  • End-to-end development/delivery: Drive decisions from problem definition to production, improving systems and enabling long-term scalability.
  • Access to workspace at Warsaw Centre Point. The hub offers modern facilities including showers, breakout zones, outdoor space, cycle parking, and refreshments (coffee, soft drinks, and fruit).

Are you the missing ingredient? If this sounds like a tasty opportunity, we’d be excited to hear from you.  We aim to review your profile and respond within 5 business days.

How to Get Hired at Hellofresh

  • HelloFresh SE is a mature, DAX-listed (now MDAX) subscription business in the middle of a multi-year reset, not a pandemic-era growth story.
  • Factor (ready-to-eat) is the strategic pivot; roles touching Factor generally have more investment and more scrutiny than legacy meal kit roles.
