Following the recent renewal of the roading maintenance contract for a further 5 + 5 years, we are now seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of this critical contract.

About the Role

 

Reporting to the Contract Manager, the Maintenance Manager is accountable for the collation, planning, and management of road maintenance activities across the network. You will be responsible for producing and maintaining annual, quarterly, and monthly work programmes, ensuring work is delivered efficiently, safely, and in alignment with NZTA/NTA requirements and funding constraints.

 

Working closely with the Contract Manager and Branch Manager, you will take ownership of programming and delivery of all maintenance budgets each season, maximising productivity and coordinating activities to achieve the best outcomes for the client.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Build, maintain, and strengthen effective client relationships with Far North District Council
  • Lead and support Project Managers, Engineers, Senior Supervisors and Supervisors to ensure optimal use of regional resources and skills
  • Develop and manage annual, quarterly, and monthly maintenance work programmes
  • Act as Contract Representative, supported by the Contract Manager and Branch Manager
  • Identify, manage, and communicate hazards, ensuring staff and subcontractors are competent and fit for work
  • Drive a continuous improvement culture, identifying opportunities to enhance delivery and contractual performance
  • Provide guidance on estimating, claims, variations, contract documentation, and contract conditions
  • Ensure compliance with all contractual, safety, and quality requirements

 

About You

 

You are an experienced roading professional with a strong background in pavement and cyclic maintenance, commercial acumen, and the ability to lead diverse operational teams. You thrive in collaborative environments and are confident managing multiple stakeholders while maintaining focus on delivery, safety, and value.

 

Skills & Experience:

 

  • Solid experience in project or maintenance management, ideally within roading or civil maintenance
  • Proven ability to analyse and interpret roading plans, drawings, and networks
  • Demonstrated experience with pavement maintenance and corridor maintenance activities
  • Strong understanding of relevant industry and legislative requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 

Qualifications:

 

  • NZ Class 1 Driver Licence (Class 2 or higher advantageous)
  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience (preferred)
  • Intermediate MS Word and Excel skills
