Job Summary
Functioning very independently and under the very general direction of the PI, the Research Specialist performs high level, complex research experiments. On a regular basis, contributes to scientific literature, reports, journals and presentations. Investigates, creates and develops new methods and technologies for research advancement.The RS will work independently and cover a wide range of responsibilities, which is an outstanding opportunity to gain deeper insights into translational psychiatry including clinical and preclinical research approaches.

Essential Functions
-Process tissue samples (including dissecting postmortem human brain samples, sectioning with a microtome/cryostat, and immunohistochemistry).
-Work independently to carry out projects part of current lab funding, including experimental design, implementation, troubleshooting, data collection and analyses and manuscript preparation.
-Process clinical data including digitalization of paper documents.
-Perform DNA, RNA and protein extraction and analysis techniques (including western blots, PCR and qPCR).
-Run statistical analyses on collected data.
-Perform general lab upkeep, such as preparing shared solutions and maintaining a clean and tidy work environment.
-Assist with manuscript and grant writing.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's Degree required and Master's Degree Neuroscience preferred and Other Certificate/Diploma Statistics preferred

Minimum of 4-5 years of research experience required Experience training research students and junior research assistant required
