Job Summary
SummaryUnder the supervision of a Pharmacist, performs a variety of technical duties related to procuring, storing, preparing, and dispensing medications in accordance with regulatory statutes and hospital procedures.

Essential Functions
Rotate through all work areas of the pharmacy.
Transport medications, drug-delivery devices, and other pharmacy equipment from the pharmacy to nursing units and other departments as appropriate.
Restock automated dispensing machines (ADMs) in the appropriate areas as needed.
Prepare medications and supplies for dispensing, including:
Preparing bulk medications.
Assisting pharmacists with entering medication orders into the computer system.
Compounding specific intravenous (IV) mixtures as approved by a pharmacist.
Preparing labels as appropriate for medication administration.
Preparing inventories, ordering drugs and supplies from vendors, receiving medications, and stocking shelves in various locations.
Assist with maintaining appropriate records regarding vaccine administration as required by the Department of Public Health (MIIS).
Assist with billing and charging for specific medications, including IV preparations, as appropriate.
Assist with ensuring medications are appropriately stored, including monitoring refrigerator and freezer temperatures in designated areas.
Assist with ensuring medications are checked for expiration dates on a rotating schedule and returning expired medications to the designated reverse distribution company.
Perform monthly nursing unit inspections, maintain workload records, and collect quality assurance data.
Adhere to all pharmacy and hospital policies and procedures in a manner consistent with professional, ethical, and legal standards of good pharmacy practice.
Follow sterile hazardous and non-hazardous compounding principles and maintain an understanding of USP <797> and Department of Public Health (DPH) regulations.
Generally work the day shift.
May be exposed to temperature fluctuations, moderate noise levels, minimal dust, infectious diseases, and hazardous and non-hazardous chemotherapeutic substances.
Be available to work overtime as needed to complete all job duties.
Be available to work in the event of a hospital-declared emergency.

High school diploma required

Licenses and Credentials
Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT] - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required
Experience
One year of hospital pharmacy experience preferred
Completion of a formalized Pharmacy Technician training program required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of record keeping techniques.
- Knowledge of computer systems.
- Must be able to demonstrate adequate technical skills and judgment.
- Basic understanding of computer technology.
- Must be able to pay attention to detail.
- Ability to tactfully communicate with both internal and external customers.
- Ability to handle stress and work in emergency situations.
- Ability to use telephone, calculator, fax, and other related office equipment.
- Ability to work as a team member.
Physical Demands
Ability to use fingers and hands to operate all equipment in the pharmacy.
Ability to stand and walk constantly.
Ability to help lift objects ranging from 5 to 30 pounds.
Ability to bend, twist, crouch, squat, pull, push, reach, remain stationary for short periods of time, and perform repetitive motions.
Ability to utilize face shields/masks, gloves, protective clothing, safety glasses, goggles, and other personal protective equipment (PPE).
