The Office of Research Administration (ORA) has an exciting opportunity for a Grant Accountant at the Coral Gables Campus.

CORE JOB SUMMARY                                                                                                                                    

The Grant Accountant monitors sponsored research accounts from award set up through closeout while adhering to University, State and Federal policies.  This position acts as a liaison between the university departments and auditors and plays an important role in all post-award compliance to ensure that budgets are not overspent, grant periods are adhered to, costs are allowable under the grant and accounting records are maintained in good order and for the proper time. 

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                          

  • Monitors internal monitoring reports monthly to ensure compliance with federal guidelines.

  • Ensures high quality, efficient service to the research community.

  • Assists in the completion of all aspects of the annual Single Audit report for federal and state awards.

  • Assists with internal and external audits pertaining to the activities of Contracts and Grants.

  • Maintains knowledge of current federal issues related to grants and audits of state, local government and non-profit organizations; interprets OMB (Office of Management and Budget) Uniform Guidance for other agreements.

  • Assists with the creation and maintenance of Allocation Definitions in Workday related to all required allocations on sponsored awards.

  • Ensures high quality, efficient service to the research community, and participates in innovative customer service initiatives.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

CPA certification preferred

Experience:  

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Federal regulations related to Research Administration, including the Uniform Guidance, Cost Accounting Standards, Federal Acquisition Regulations, and major Federal funding agency guidelines.

  • Excellent computer skills and facility with using MS Excel (sorting, pivot tables, filtering, basic formulas)

  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, ability to translate and summarize numbers into an understandable. narrative to others; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals.

  • Demonstrated experience using institutional systems.
