As a co-op in RIO, you will work as part of a team, under the supervision of a team member. You will be tasked with providing support to our Tier 1 team, assisting with customer requests, maintaining training materials, and analyzing service metrics. You will be introduced to a wide range of analytic tools, including automation and AI applications, that assist our team with providing top-tier customer satisfaction. You will work on assignments and projects that can be multi-disciplinary or interdepartmental.
In this role you will develop an in-depth understanding of DFCI’s I&A department and the Harvard Cancer Consortium (HCC). You will also learn how to effectively collaborate with other teams whose expertise in specific data systems and/or methodologies can assist with our client’s business needs. JOB TITLE: Co-Op, Business Analyst
DEPARTMENT: Informatics & Analytics (I&A), Research Informatics Operations (RIO)

HOURLY RATE: $25/hour, 40 hours/week
EMPLOYMENT TERM: July 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026 (6 months)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Research Informatics Operations (RIO) Co-Op Program at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute offers motivated undergraduate students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic healthcare informatics and analytics (I&A) environment. Interns will collaborate with experienced I&A professionals on meaningful projects that support the institute’s mission while developing technical and professional skills. It involves working with client-facing applications, providing system support, and discovering ways to enhance client experience.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Co-Op 40 hours/week for 6 months (fully remote*)
- Working in a team environment to solve complex problems
- Identifying common issues or trends based on client requests
- Good communication skills to ensure that all necessary information is collected to make informed decisions
- Analyzing processes to identify patterns or opportunities for improvement
- Reviewing training materials and ensuring they are presented clearly and concisely
- Brainstorming and developing innovative solutions to enhance client services
- Participating in team meetings
- Collaborating on projects that align with the institution’s strategic direction
- Building relationships with professionals across departments
- Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Experience in customer-facing jobs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and analytical abilities
- Ability to learn new tools and utilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and as a team
- Proven track record of meeting deadlines
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills
- Remain open-minded, vet work with the support of team members, and ensure accuracy before delivering end-results
- Promptly escalate issues, concerns, and problems which may hinder achievement of deadlines and or/ accomplishments of responsibilities to the attention of RIO leadership
- Open to feedback and committed to continuous growth
- Display integrity and a strong sense of ethics, aligned with DFCI’s mission
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
* Remote work may only be performed from any of the New England states (ME, NH, VT, MA, CT & RI).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field
Technical Skills:
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Quick learner with the ability to pick up new software tools and technologies
