ABC Workplace Adjustments Guidelines

The ABC is dedicated to fostering a respectful and inclusive workplace by providing accessible opportunities to all employees.

The ABC will strive to accommodate workplace adjustments where possible and reasonable, to support the needs of current and prospective employees with disability.

A workplace adjustment—also referred to as a reasonable adjustment—entails modifying work processes, procedures, or environments to enable individuals to:

  • Perform at their best
  • Work productively
  • Maintain a safe working environment
  • Feel included and valued in the workplace
  • Increase engagement and motivation to enhance performance

These guidelines apply to all employees, both prospective and current, who have disclosed a disability to the ABC at any stage of the employment process.

This includes all forms of employment, such as full-time, part-time, permanent, casual, and short-term roles.

The ABC’s Workplace Adjustment Guidelines are supported by a Manager Toolkit and Workplace Adjustments Passport.

The toolkit has been developed to provide further information and context for managers around the ABC’s Workplace Adjustments Guidelines.

Workplace Adjustments Passport

The Workplace Adjustments Passport is a record where an employee with a disability can explain their workplace adjustment requirements and may choose to elaborate on their personal circumstances with additional information for managers.

The Workplace Adjustment Passport stays active when the employee changes roles, locations, or managers. This eliminates the need for reassessment and ensures that adjustments are maintained in new environments.

The option to hold a passport is voluntary.

How to Get Hired at ABC Australia

  • The ABC is Australia's national public broadcaster, established under the ABC Act 1983, headquartered at Ultimo in Sydney with a major Melbourne base at Southbank, employing approximately 4,000 staff across TV, radio, news, iview, ABC iview Kids, podcasts, and an Asia-Pacific bureau network.
  • Funding comes from a triennial federal appropriation rather than advertising; this drives lower salaries than commercial broadcasters but funds generous leave, 15.4 per cent ABC-nominated superannuation, and a strong work-life balance norm.
