Format freelance experience as you would any other position: include a title ("Freelance Graphic Designer"), a date range, and bullet points with specific projects and results. Name the clients you worked with whenever your contract allows it — "Designed brand identity system for a Series B fintech startup" is adequate, but "Designed brand identity system for Stripe" is significantly more compelling. If freelance was your primary work for a period, do not try to disguise it; hiring managers understand and respect freelance experience when it is presented professionally.
