Are you a skilled Mechanical Fitter looking to take your experience underground and into one of Australia's technically diverse mining operations? At Newmont, we’re searching for a Fixed Plant Maintenance Fitter to support the reliability of our critical surface and underground assets.
As part of our team, you will:
- Carry out maintenance and repairs on a wide range of fixed plant equipment across both surface and underground areas, including crushers, paste and batching plants, ventilation fans, air compressors, refrigeration systems, dewatering systems, refuge chambers, vent doors, and other associated infrastructure.
- Undertake maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities on critical infrastructure such as a new Koepe winder, shaft services, the underground crusher and conveyor system (including a Thyssenkrupp KB 54-67 gyratory crusher), and GEHO dewatering pumps.
- Comply with the site’s Work Management Process, ensuring timely completion of daily time confirmations and accurate, detailed work history entries for all tasks performed.
- Supervise and mentor apprentices, providing guidance and support to build capability and confidence in junior team members.
- Work collaboratively within a team environment, while also demonstrating the ability to operate independently with minimal supervision.
- Take the lead during shutdowns as the designated Task Lead, ensuring all work is executed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality by the shutdown crews.
Prerequisites for your success in this role
- Hold a relevant trade qualification, such as Mechanical Fitter or Fitter and Turner
- Demonstrated experience in the mining industry is essential; underground experience is highly regarded
- Exposure to winder systems, shaft infrastructure, and underground crusher equipment is highly desirable
- Possess a current Australian driver’s licence
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to contribute to and maintain a positive, team-oriented work environment
- Experience using SAP or similar maintenance systems is advantageous
- Hold valid certifications in Working at Heights, Confined Space Entry, Forklift (LF), Elevated Work Platform (EWP), and Dogging (DG)
- Additional qualifications such as Non-Slewing Mobile Crane (CN) and Poly Welding are desirable but not essential
- Ability to work rotating day/night shifts
- Mask fit ready
