Lead Engineer, Marine & Ports

Your role and responsibilities

We are looking for electrical Lead Engineer at ABB Oy Marine & Ports division, Marine Systems Service, Engineering team. Marine Systems Service delivers propulsion system modernizations and decarbonization solutions such as shore to ship connections and energy storage systems.

You will be engineering modernizations based on ABB newest technology solutions to extend the vessels life cycle. You will cooperate with global internal stakeholders and in addition classification society and end customer. Position will be in Helsinki (Vuosaari) and requires international travelling.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Overall responsibility of project engineering in service projects, for example modernization of propulsion system modernization, shore connection or electric energy storage system.

• System engineering including functional descriptions, test procedures and other documentation.

• Coordinating tasks of hardware engineer and software engineer, procurement, and docking planning with project manager

• Customer communication of project technical matters

• Organizing classification society approval of projects and leading factory acceptance testing (FAT)

• Ensuring successful results in installation, commissioning, harbor acceptance testing (HAT), sea trial testing (SAT), and warranty claim closing

• Supporting sales, evaluating technical scope of supply

• Lead engineering for small scale R&D projects

• Supporting continuous improvement of project, system design, product, and processes

Qualifications for the role

• Self-driven can-do attitude, and good communication skills to quickly resolve project related activities and issues

• Proven experience in project engineering within low voltage or medium voltage electrical systems

• Sound knowledge of engineering techniques, processes and tools

• M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and a few years of relevant experience with electrical systems

• Good spoken and written communication skills in English. Finnish is an advantage.

• Ability and willingness to travel approx. 30 days per year typically but not limited in United States and Europe

• Experience in marine industry and systems, commissioning, service, and other on-site experience is an advantage

• Experience of ABB products such as low and medium voltage drives, switchboards, propulsion control system (PCS), power and energy management systems (PEMS), and Onboard DC Grid (ODCG) is an advantage.
