A Live Underwriter in U.S. mortgages evaluates loan applications, assesses borrower risk, and ensures compliance with lending guidelines (FHA, VA, Conventional, etc.). They review income, credit, assets, and property details to approve, suspend, or deny loans while working with loan officers and processors.
Key Responsibilities:
Loan Evaluation & Decision-Making
- Review and analyze mortgage loan applications for eligibility, accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal and regulatory guidelines.
- Assess borrower creditworthiness by thoroughly reviewing credit history, income, assets, and collateral (4Cs of Underwriting).
- Ensure loan documentation adheres to HUD, investor, and company guidelines to mitigate risk.
- Make independent underwriting decisions on loan approvals, suspensions, or denials based on risk assessment.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company lending regulations to minimize potential risks.
