Job Summary

Infra-Metals, a leading distributor of metal products and value-added processing services, is looking for reliable and experienced Yard Truck Drivers to join our Tampa team!

In this essential role, you’ll help keep our warehouse operations running smoothly by safely moving and positioning tractor-trailers within the yard. You’ll ensure trailers are properly staged for loading, unloading, and transport so production stays on schedule.

Function in the Job

Medium/Heavy work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Job Function

As a Yard Truck Driver, you will operate yard trucks in various conditions and tight spaces, working with precision and accuracy. This hands-on role offers variety and keeps you engaged throughout your shift.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate gasoline or diesel-powered yard trucks to move trailers for loading and unloading.
• Reposition tractor-trailers in the yard and bring them into the warehouse as needed.
• Connect brake air lines to trailers safely and correctly.
• Spot and move trailers for shipping and receiving throughout the shift.
• Maintain constant radio communication with the team for updates and instructions.
• Coordinate with multiple warehouse departments and coworkers to complete tasks.
• Handle multiple requests and tasks simultaneously.
• Follow all safety requirements, policies, and procedures.

Safety & Equipment:

• Perform safety checks on trailers and equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Walk the yard to identify and document any vehicle defects.
• Report equipment damage immediately.
• Attend all required safety meetings and training sessions.
• Work with a high level of focus and driving skill in a safety-sensitive environment.

Physical & Schedule Requirements:

• Able to stand, sit, and walk for long periods.
• Climb stairs and lift up to 50 lbs frequently and 100 lbs occasionally.
• Perform heavy pushing and pulling, and climb in and out of the yard truck.
• Work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and short-notice coverage based on business needs.
• Work in outdoor conditions (rain, heat, cold, etc.) and around loud machinery when required.

Required Skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills (ability to read, write, and converse effectively)
• Valid Driver’s License
• Ability to safely operate a truck in accordance with MVR standards

Preferred:

• CDL (Commercial Driver’s License)
• Experience operating heavy-capacity forklifts
• Material handling experience
• Prior experience working with steel
