Accountabilities:
- Lead and oversee underwriting operations for conventional, FHA, VA, and other mortgage loan products
- Serve as a senior escalation point for complex underwriting decisions and loan-level issues
- Ensure underwriting activities meet established service level agreements and production targets
- Provide expert guidance and decision support to underwriting teams and branch personnel
- Perform second-level loan reviews and ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards
- Monitor underwriting pipeline performance and drive productivity and efficiency improvements
- Manage underwriting reporting, performance metrics, and operational dashboards
- Lead, coach, and mentor a team of underwriting professionals to ensure high performance and development
- Collaborate with sales and operations teams to resolve escalations and maintain strong customer service
- Participate in special projects, training initiatives, and process improvement efforts as needed
- 5+ years of mortgage underwriting experience across FHA, VA, USDA, and conventional loan products
- 3+ years of leadership or management experience within underwriting or credit operations
- Strong knowledge of agency guidelines including FHA, VA, and conventional lending standards
- Direct Endorsement (DE) status and/or VA SAR authority strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of ATR/QM requirements and mortgage compliance regulations
- Experience working with underwriting systems such as Encompass LOS is a plus
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound judgment in complex scenarios
- Proven ability to lead teams, coach underwriters, and drive performance in a high-volume environment
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across operations and sales teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Competitive base salary ranging from $160,000 to $175,000
