We are seeking a Site Lead to oversee operations at our newly acquired Smart Equine facility in Plymouth, Massachusetts — a vertically integrated site responsible for manufacturing, packaging, and fulfilling a broad portfolio of equine and animal-care products! The operation includes both in-house–produced SmartPak supplements and third-party–sourced products like hardgoods, apparel, and tack fulfilled within the same facility. This leader will play a pivotal role in integrating Smart Equine with Chewy, ensuring seamless performance across manufacturing, fulfillment, and customer delivery. Smart Equine represents a key investment in Chewy's strategy to expand owned-brand capabilities and strengthen our position across the equestrian and companion-animal markets. The ideal candidate combines strategic vision with hands-on leadership, thrives in a dynamic environment, and brings a data-driven, continuous-improvement mentality to every aspect of the business.
Site & Operations Leadership
- Own all aspects of site operations, including manufacturing, fulfillment, safety, quality, maintenance, janitorial and the sites financial performance.
- Lead a diverse, multi-shift workforce of managers and associates to achieve productivity, cost, and service goals.
- Build a culture of safety, inclusion, accountability, and innovation.
- Serve as the site’s primary Operations leader, ensuring alignment with operational strategy and performance standards.
Manufacturing & Blending Operations
- Oversee the blending and production of SmartPaks, managing the full lifecycle from raw material receipt through finished goods packaging, storage and fulfillment,.
- Lead production planning, scheduling, and line performance to meet demand forecasts and maintain supply continuity.
- Partner with quality and technical teams to ensure product integrity, consistency, and traceability.
- Drive continuous improvement in material flow, space utilization, and process efficiency between manufacturing and fulfillment.
- Ensure fixed assets, equipment, and production technologies are properly maintained and optimized for future growth.
Hybrid Operations: Manufactured & Third-Party Products
- Manage an integrated operation that includes both in-house–produced goods and third-party–sourced products (hardgoods, apparel, and tack) fulfilled within the same facility.
- Balance throughput, labor, and inventory priorities across manufacturing and resale categories to improve service and efficiency.
- Coordinate production and fulfillment activities to ensure seamless flow between blending, packaging, and shipping.
- Align closely with Chewy’s supply chain and merchandising teams to maintain strong inventory integrity and exceptional customer service.
Strategic Growth & Integration
- Lead the operational integration of the Smart Equine program alongside Chewy, developing scalable frameworks for safety, quality, performance, and culture.
- Identify and implement automation, technology, and process enhancements that improve cost, quality, and delivery.
- Champion innovation and cross-functional collaboration to support the growth of Chewy’s Health & Wellness and Hardgoods businesses.
- Act as a key partner in developing Chewy’s long-term owned-brand production and distribution strategy by crafting the approach.
People Development & Culture
- Build, mentor, and develop a strong leadership team that models Chewy’s values and fosters a high-performance culture.
- Lead change management efforts as Smart Equine transitions into Chewy’s network, building cohesion across legacy and new teams.
- Drive engagement through communication, recognition, and transparent goal-setting.
- Ensure succession planning and leadership development are embedded at all levels of the organization.
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred.
- 8–10+ years of progressive leadership experience in fulfillment, manufacturing, or distribution operations.
- Proven success leading large-scale teams with responsibility for both production and fulfillment functions.
- Expertise in production planning, scheduling, and continuous improvement (Lean, Six Sigma, or similar).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to use data to drive decisions.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills across all organizational levels.
- Demonstrated success leading through change and building new operational capabilities.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Ability to travel periodically for business needs.
Physical Requirements
- Walk up to 2 miles per shift.
- Occasionally lift up to 70 pounds (team lift).
- Stand, push, pull, carry, squat, and kneel.
- Climb stairs as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in equine, pet, or related manufacturing and fulfillment environments.
- Background in post-acquisition integration or operational scale-up.
- Passion for building high-performing, people-first teams that deliver measurable results.
The base salary range for this role is $149,000 - $245,000.00.
The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.

Exempt salary team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
