Production Team Leader (Extrusion Area) - 2nd Shift
The Production Team Leader (Extrusion Area) is a working leader who supports daily production operations while helping maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment. This role coordinates day-to-day activities on the floor, supports production performance, and provides guidance to operators and production team members.
This position plays a key role in ensuring consistent operation, communication across shifts, and adherence to safety and quality expectations. The ideal candidate is hands-on, dependable, and able to support both people and processes in a manufacturing setting.
Key Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)
Leadership & Communication
- Lead by example in safety, quality, attendance, and work ethic
- Communicate daily priorities, changes, and production needs
- Provide clear shift updates on performance, issues, and actions
- Coordinate activities between operators, support teams, and leadership
- Promote teamwork and a positive work environment
Safety & Compliance
- Support safe operation of equipment and material handling
- Reinforce PPE, LOTO, and general safety practices
- Identify and address safety concerns or escalate as needed
Operational Oversight
- Support daily production to meet output and schedule needs
- Assist with line startup, line shutdown, changeovers, and basic troubleshooting
- Monitor material flow and coordinate support when needed
- Respond to production issues such as downtime, staffing gaps, or material concerns
- Help balance labor and tasks to keep operations running smoothly
Quality & Process Control
- Verify product quality meets standards
- Reinforce standard work and consistent processes
- Support containment and escalation of defects or issues
- Participate in basic problem solving and follow-up actions
Continuous Improvement
- Support team involvement in process improvements
- Help identify downtime, scrap, or inefficiencies
- Maintain organization and workplace standards (5S)
Coaching & Development
- Train and support team members in daily tasks
- Reinforce proper operation, safety, and work practices
- Provide feedback and support performance improvement
Daily Management & Leader Standard Work
- Participate in daily team meetings and shift handoffs
- Communicate key updates and issues to leadership
- Support standard daily checks, audits, and follow-ups
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience in plastics manufacturing (extrusion preferred)
- Previous team lead or informal leadership experience preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Mechanical or process aptitude
Must be able to:
- Lift, bend and reach, including below waist level and above shoulder level
- Lift, push and pull weights of up to 25lbs frequently and up to 50lbs occasionally
- Work around hot surfaces, moving equipment, forklifts, and high-noise environments
- Work daily overtime and weekend support as dictated by production schedule.
