Principal Engineer (Structures) - Data Center projects
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Principal Engineer (Structures) to lead structural design and engineering initiatives for our data center projects in Chennai, India.
In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for developing innovative structural solutions that support mission-critical infrastructure while ensuring compliance with local and international building standards.
You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance data center facilities that meet stringent technical and operational requirements.
- Lead the structural design and analysis of data center facilities, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and compliance with applicable building codes and standards in India
- Develop comprehensive structural engineering plans, specifications, and technical documentation for complex data center projects
- Conduct detailed structural analysis using advanced modeling and simulation software to evaluate load-bearing capacity, seismic resilience, and thermal considerations
- Collaborate with architects, MEP engineers, and project managers to integrate structural solutions with overall facility design and operational requirements
- Oversee and mentor junior engineers and design teams, providing technical guidance and ensuring adherence to engineering best practices
- Manage vendor relationships and coordinate with contractors to ensure proper implementation of structural designs during construction phases
- Perform site assessments and inspections to verify structural integrity and compliance with design specifications
- Analyze and resolve complex structural challenges, providing innovative solutions that balance performance, cost-efficiency, and sustainability
- Prepare technical reports, calculations, and design documentation for stakeholder review and regulatory approval
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and evolving standards in data center infrastructure design
Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional experience in structural engineering design and analysis
- 5+ years of direct experience in data center or mission-critical facilities design and construction
- Demonstrated expertise in structural systems, load analysis, and building code compliance
- Proficiency with CAD software and structural analysis tools (STAAD, SAP2000, or equivalent)
- Strong knowledge of Indian building codes (IS codes) and international standards (IBC, Eurocode)
- Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and advanced design software
- Knowledge of data center infrastructure, including cooling systems, power distribution, and equipment placement considerations
- Familiarity with seismic design principles and sustainable building practices
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification or equivalent is preferred
- Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams and cross-functional projects
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Strong project management capabilities with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
