About the Team
Our hardware development team in Bochum focuses on the design and industrialization of advanced electronic and power-electronic systems. The team works at the intersection of mechanical engineering, electronics, and thermal design, ensuring reliable, manufacturable, and high-performance products.
Working in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, you will partner closely with electrical, software, and system engineers to develop robust device architectures, optimize thermal performance, and ensure successful integration of complex PCB assemblies into mechanical enclosures.
The team combines strong engineering fundamentals with practical problem-solving to deliver solutions that perform reliably in real-world environments.
About the Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will contribute to the design and development of mechanical solutions for sophisticated electronic systems, with a particular focus on PCB integration, enclosure design, and thermal management.
You will support the full product lifecycle, from concept development through prototyping and validation to industrialization. The role requires strong collaboration with electrical and system engineers to ensure optimal mechanical performance, manufacturability, and product reliability.
This position is ideal for engineers interested in working at the interface between mechanical engineering and electronics, contributing to next-generation test and measurement and power electronic technologies.
Responsibilities
- Design mechanical components and assemblies for electronic systems, including enclosures, structural parts, and PCB integration concepts
- Develop 3D CAD models and create detailed 2D technical drawings compliant with relevant standards
- Collaborate closely with electrical engineering teams to ensure optimal integration of PCB assemblies and electronic components
- Perform mechanical analyses including stress, vibration, shock, and transport considerations
- Support thermal design activities, including heat dissipation concepts and thermal simulations
- Ensure design for manufacturability (DFM) for sheet metal, milled parts, injection molded components, and assemblies
- Contribute to prototype development, testing, and validation activities
- Analyze technical trade-offs between performance, cost, manufacturability, and reliability
- Document design decisions and verification results clearly and comprehensively
- Support continuous improvement of engineering tools and processes, including adoption of modern simulation or AI-assisted tools
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience with 3D CAD tools (e.g., Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Creo, or similar parametric CAD systems)
- Experience designing mechanical components for electronic devices or PCB assemblies
- Understanding of mechanical fundamentals including strength of materials, tolerancing, and structural design
- Basic knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, or thermal management concepts
- Ability to collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary engineering teams
Desired Qualifications
- Experience designing enclosures for electronic or power electronic systems
- Familiarity with thermal simulation tools or practical thermal validation methods
- Knowledge of design for manufacturability (DFM) for sheet metal, plastics, or machined components
- Experience with mechanical testing such as vibration, shock, or environmental validation
- Experience with rapid prototyping or additive manufacturing (3D printing)
- Exposure to simulation tools for airflow, thermal behavior, or mechanical stress analysis
- Familiarity with modern engineering productivity tools (e.g., simulation automation, AI-assisted CAD workflows)
