Lead - Climate Finance

We are looking to recruit a Lead Climate Finance who will leadthe low carbon portfolio business development, research, management, andexpansion of the exciting work undertaken by the Climate change andsustainability practice of IPE Global especially around low carbon pathways andclimate adaptation. She/he will primarily be responsible for portfoliodevelopment which includes gaining early business insights, identifyingopportunities, leading proposal writing, setting up teams upon win forimplementation, and providing oversight for the successful delivery of theproject.

The Lead Climate Finance will work with and mentor a team ofyoung and energetic development professionals. The work might require frequentfield visits and coordination with various stakeholders. She/he will have toperform primary and secondary data collection and analysis. She/he should beequipped to perform and should have knowledge on Contribute to researchincluding energy-economy modelling, development of sectoral roadmaps, policyanalysis, and thematic studies on topics such as just energy transition,climate resilience, and low-carbon technology impacts.

The Climate Change and Sustainability practice at IPE Global hassubstantial experience delivering multiyear and high-impact programmes formulti-lateral, bi-lateral funders along with philanthropic partners. Theseprogrammes are supported by leading donors and foundations and are implementedin partnership with coveted research institutions, civil society organisations,and public institutions. The Senior Manager will work with a teamof high-performing professionals to lead the expansion andmanagement of the exciting work undertaken by the Climate Change and Sustainabilitypractice of IPE Global in India, South Asia and South East Asia and in EastAfrica.

Key Responsibilities:

Climate Finance Portfolio Development (50%):

  • Identifying new business opportunities within India and SouthAsia, Africa in developing leads, and contacting potential donors.
  • Keeping up to date with trends within the sector, undertakingoutreach activities, generating reports, and presenting an analysis of businessdevelopment progress.
  • Expanding on Climate Change and Sustainabilitys current work,identify growth opportunities in close partnership with team leaders and seniormanagement. Contribute to research including energy-economy modelling,development of sectoral roadmaps, policy analysis, and thematic studies ontopics such as just energy transition, climate resilience, and low-carbontechnology impacts.
  • Be an ambassador for the organization in relevant conferences,workshops, training programmes; be seen as a thought-leader in the area ofenergy finance.
  • Understanding of climate finance and the financial sector actorsand actions that are crucial to driving a low carbon, climate-resilient economy.
  • Exposure/Experience working with the Government, FinancialRegulators, domestic and international philanthropy, and DFIs.
  • Perform rigorous quantitative evaluation of national andinternational climate finance mechanisms and climate and energy policies,climate risk management, and interactions between public and private sector -corporate, banking, and financial services institutions and internationalfinancial institutions.
  • Lead the development of client-targeted, new and existinganalytical approaches, initiatives, projects, and products.

Business development and stakeholder relationships:

  • Contribute to annual business planning and fundraising strategyand sphere heading climate finance related technical bids
  • Identify and pursue funding and business development opportunitiesfor CCS practice
  • Maintain excellent relations with a selection of key stakeholdersand (potential) clients, as agreed with senior management
  • Engage clients, advise policymakers and investors on theimplications of research findings, including presenting at high-level events.

Research and Programme Management (40%):

  • Coordinate with project implementation teams to ensure the qualityand timeliness of deliverables.
  • Contribute to the development and co-creation of alternate climatefinance scenarios for India with relevant partners.
  • Support data collection and analysis for energy-economy modellinginitiatives within the team.
  • Coordinate events for engagement with partners throughroundtables, seminars, workshops, policy dialogues, training, and othercommunication and outreach activities.
  • Contribute to the production of event summary reports andproceedings.
  • Help develop tools to track and strengthen climate actionplanning.
  • Publish research publications, thematic studies, climate financialroadmaps, policy briefs, and blogs on topics related to long-term financialpathways climate strategies, decarbonisation, , sectoral transition strategies,and just transitions
  • Leveraging his/her domain expertise in finance to drive the CCSpractices international portfolio on climate finance
  • Work in close coordination with project teams and undertakequality delivery.
  • Expand the Climate Mitigation team by assisting in hiring theright set of people at a Research Analyst and Programme Associate level todrive the strategy and execute the plan Oversee routine project managementactivities, including reviewing and submitting project reports to donors,developing budgets and work plans, and backstop operations as needed.
  • Develop appropriate collaterals to showcase IPE Globals work.
  • Build, structure, and develop knowledge to share internally,within the organization, and at the ecosystem level.

Leadership and Mentoring (10%):

  • Manage a team of multi-disciplinary team of Analysts and AssociateMangers on a day-to-day basis.
  • Assist Senior Management and consultants with financial reportingand budgeting for specific projects.
  • Support cross-sectoral teams to build various multi-disciplinaryportfolios around climate change.
  • Perform and design field surveys not limited to questionnairedesigning, coordinating with field staffs.
  • Motivate, guide and mentor junior team members to help themdeliver at their best.

Qualifications Experience:

Educational:

  • PhD/Master s degree required in the fields of economics, finance , international / sustainable development, public policy, management, or anotherrelevant field.
  • Candidates without such a qualification will only be consideredif significant relevant work experience can be demonstrated.
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in programmanagement, advocacy, knowledge management, communication, etc., in ClimateFinance or a related field is required; a minimum of 4 years of experience ininternational organizations or IGOs is required.
  • Experience in financial services, management consulting,international non-profit, or development financial institution is mandatory.Analytical capacity and the demonstrated ability to process, analyze, andsynthesize complex, technical information into user-friendly formats andproducts.
  • Background in Financial sector - Banking/capital markets/insuranceis mandatory
  • Sound understanding of energy transition, knowledge of publicfinance in the Indian context preferred.
  • Experience in undertaking stakeholder consultations with publicand private sector entities.

Professional Attributes:

  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of mixed-method researchapproaches (qualitative and quantitative) for policy evaluation, sectoralfinancial analysis, and allied. Analytical Problem-Solving Skills:

  • Proficiency in using advanced Microsoft Excel and quantitativetools for financial modeling and socio-economic analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with fluency inEnglish.
  • Previous experience developing proposals forbilateral/multilateral organizations, foundations and philanthropies.

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in multi-cultural andmulti-ethnic teams.
  • Preference for candidates with knowledge and skills in projectmanagement.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with commitment to mentoring andteam development.
