Writing Coach

Fort Myers, FL April 14, 2026 Full Time Workday

About This Role

The Writing Coach plays a critical role in elevating the clarity, credibility and client value of Gartner research. This role partners closely with staff (primarily Gartner analysts) to help them communicate complex business and technology insights in writing that is clear, concise, engaging and unmistakably Gartner.

Through 1:1 coaching, group training, and tool development, the Writing Coach builds writing capability across experience levels, strengthens Gartner voice and style and improves the overall quality and usability of research for a global executive audience. The role combines deep writing expertise with coaching skill, instructional design, and stakeholder partnership, with a strong emphasis on modern writing practices, including AI‑assisted content creation.

What You’ll Do

Training, Coaching & Capability Building

  • Assess individual and group writing needs through structured evaluations, initial intake conversations and ongoing progress reviews; design tailored coaching plans to close gaps between current and desired performance.
  • Deliver high‑impact 1:1 coaching sessions and facilitate virtual and in‑person group training focused on clarity, structure, readability, client‑centricity, editing and Gartner voice.
  • Provide clear, constructive and actionable feedback with a teaching mindset—modeling strong writing by offering rewritten examples when appropriate.
  • Serve as the authoritative expert on writing quality for a professional business audience, including organization, tone, engagement, grammar, punctuation and editing best practices.
  • Coach staff at all seniority levels, from early‑career analysts to experienced experts, adapting methods to experience, confidence and learning style.
  • Guide authors in the effective, ethical, and high‑quality use of AI‑assisted writing tools, helping them improve productivity while maintaining Gartner standards.

Content Standards, Tools & Resources

  • Research, develop, and maintain writing guidelines, checklists, prompts and takeaways that reinforce Gartner writing standards and improve consistency at scale.
  • Build and curate an accessible library of writing resources to support on‑demand learning.
  • Contribute to and facilitate learning & development programs focused on writing excellence, as assigned.

Project, Data & Stakeholder Management

  • Track coaching activity, participation, and outcomes; develop reports highlighting trends, improvement areas, and writing quality indicators (e.g., error types, scores, feedback themes).
  • Use data and feedback to evaluate the effectiveness of coaching services and recommend improvements.
  • Partner with research leaders, managers and stakeholders to align on coaching priorities, participation strategies, and adoption.
  • Independently manage initiatives across regions, balancing shifting deadlines and stakeholder expectations.
  • Build trusted relationships with staff and leaders, ensuring a consistently high‑quality coaching experience and clear communication.
  • Proactively promote writing coaching services and articulate best practices for engaging with them.

What You’ll Need

Experience & Credentials

  • 5+ years of experience in professional writing, editing and/or content development; experience coaching or developing writers in a fast‑paced, complex environment strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Experience working with business, research, or executive‑level content highly desirable.

Core Capabilities

  • Expert command of written and spoken English, including composition, rewriting, style, grammar, editing and clarity.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach writing—not just edit it—by diagnosing root causes and driving lasting behavior change.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver engaging virtual and in‑person training for individuals and groups.
  • Strong understanding of how adults learn and how to apply modern instructional and coaching approaches.
  • Comfort assessing, adopting, and coaching the use of AI and emerging tools to improve writing quality and efficiency.
  • Project and stakeholder management experience, including expectation setting, prioritization and influence without authority.
  • Strong digital fluency (MS Office, Google Docs, collaboration and learning tools).

Mindset & Ways of Working

  • Passion for helping authors grow in confidence and capability at every stage of development.
  • Highly collaborative, service‑oriented, and credible with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Calm, solution‑oriented approach when navigating ambiguity, resistance to feedback, or shifting priorities.
  • Self‑directed, organized, and comfortable taking initiative in a global, matrixed environment.
  • Strong time‑management and multitasking skills with a consistently high bar for quality.
