Why AustralianSuper?

Our story began more than 30 years ago, with the creation of universal superannuation for all Australians. Since then, we’ve grown into Australia’s largest super fund – an advantage we use every day to help members achieve their best possible retirement outcomes.

    Purpose is what inspires us all.

    So how does AustralianSuper's purpose inspire its people in helping members achieve their best possible financial position in retirement?

    We've brought together a group of AustralianSuper colleagues to find out.

    How often do you and your colleagues talk about what's in members' best financial interests?

    Every week, monthly, once a year?

    (gentle upbeat music)

    I've been a member of AustralianSuper for more than 10 years, so it was actually really kind of exciting for me to join as a colleague at the fund. I think the big difference here and what you really notice is that whatever we are doing is in the best financial interest of our members.

    When we're putting a business case together for a new technology system, we have a box that we literally check on the form.

    So we have to be able to say, yes, this is in the best financial interest of our members.

    What initially attracted you to AustralianSuper? It's purpose, career opportunity, lifestyle and wellbeing?

    (gentle upbeat music)

    I think purpose is very much about what it is you're doing on a day-to-day basis.

    It's that purpose to make sure that our member are financially looked after.

    I finish work and I'll get on a train.

    And I think, "I wonder how many people "in this train carriage are with AustralianSuper and what I do potentially impacts them."

    I'd explain the way the fund acts and this idea of being selfless the same way I guess I'd describe parenting.

    You do it for someone else.

    Is working out AustralianSuper what you expected it to be? Yes, no?

    So I remember, during my time in practice, when I was working with AustralianSuper on the King's Cross transaction,

    it struck me that if I was to ever choose to go in-house, AustralianSuper would be one of those organisations that I would want to go and work for.

    So I think the uniqueness comes from the fact that you have, in one organisation, the members, at one end, that we're all working for and, at the other end, you've got the size and scale that AustralianSuper has, which allows it to play in the space of the biggest global investment platforms around.
