Wapiti Gravel Suppliers, a division of N.P.A. is hiring Asphalt Plant Groundspersons!
An asphalt plant groundsperson ensures smooth operations by performing maintenance, cleaning (shovelling/sweeping), and safety checks on machinery, including conveyor belts and mixers. They assist with loading materials, handle liquid asphalt, and operate heavy equipment such as skid steers, working in high-noise, varied‑weather environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Load, unload and move construction materials around the worksite
- Lubricate and grease plant machinery, change belts, and perform repairs to ensure continuous operation.
- Assist with loading materials and receiving liquid asphalt deliveries into storage tanks.
- Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate aligned and movement of materials.
- Operate skid steers, loaders, and other machinery for cleanup or material movement.
- Keep the plant site, conveyor systems, and equipment clean using shovels, rakes, and brooms to avoid spills and buildup.
- Work closely with the plant foreman to report maintenance needs.
- Ensure worksite is organized and free of clutter, rubble, and garbage.
- Operate equipment, such as pneumatic hammers, vibrators, tampers, and skid steer when needed.
- Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
- Participate as a team member, and contribute towards the success of the organization, which may involve the provision of other technical and administrative support, as required.
- Must ensure a solid understanding of and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics.
- Must examine situations in light of the principles of the Code of Ethics.
- Other General Labour and construction related duties as required.
Qualifications | Requirements
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred
- Class 5 Drivers License preferred
Working Conditions
- Schedule of Monday - Saturday up to 12 hours per day (weather dependent). Overtime is paid in accordance with applicable employment standards legislation.
- Out of town travel may be required.
- Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
- Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
