Job Summary Responsible for journeyman-level work in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, facilities, and related electronic controls and devices, including primary and secondary power systems. Conduct utility meter readings as required and perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems. This position is considered essential personnel and may require unusual attendance responsibilities, such as storm duty. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical equipment and circuits such as wires, conduits, switches, outlets, junction boxes, transformers, motors, and generators in facilities such as pumps, lighting equipment, carrier systems, timing devices, electrical heating units, exhaust systems, smoke detectors, fire alarms, hypothermal units, thermostats, timing devices, Lutron lighting dimmer panels and electrical systems of furnaces and boilers. Isolates and corrects malfunctions in equipment and circuits of a routine recurring nature. Completes assigned work orders in a timely and efficient fashion while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor with all customers. Cuts, threads, bends, and installs conduits. Utilizes bucket truck, drills, saws, benders, voltmeters, amprobes, high voltage testers, and University vehicles.Also uses standard hands tools, such as hammers, screwdrivers, and pliers. Disassembles, cleans, repairs, and reassembles electrical motors and related equipment following established procedures. Tests, maintains, and repairs all emergency electrical equipment and card access locks.Transports a variety of tools and supplies to ensure that required materials are available at the job site. Tests, maintains, and repairs all emergency electrical equipment including generators and back-up UPS. Serves as a member of the Physical Plant Essential Personnel and as directs staff during pre-emergency preparations and post-emergency recovery efforts.This position will require participation in call-out responsibilities and may require night shift coverage and weekend work and performs additional duties as assigned.
