Please note that this is a fixed-term position, running through to November, with scheduled workdays on Tuesdays and Fridays.
About the role:
As a Uniformed Services Tutor, you’ll guide learners through our dynamic 18-week Pre-Police and Uniformed Services preparation Programme. Drawing on your own service experience, you’ll coach students through the physical, technical and professional skills they need to thrive in uniformed services environments. You’ll help build their confidence, resilience, teamwork, and communication to meet the demands of careers across the Defence forces sector.
Some of your key responsibilities:
- You will bring the Uniformed Services (Level 3) curriculum to life through engaging, practical, and interactive delivery
- Lead physical training sessions to help students build confidence, discipline, and teamwork
- Mentor and support students from diverse background, tracking their progress and providing pastoral care
- Share your industry expertise and knowledge to strengthen the programme and maintaining its alignment with the evolving needs of the industry
- Play a pivotal role in improving student success rates across the Defence forces
About you:
We are looking for individuals with a background in areas related to uniformed services or fitness to teach our course. In this role, you will also help our young students grow their knowledge of the uniform services, develop their physical skills needed to succeed, and support them in developing important technical and soft skills.
You must be an experienced professional with a passion for fitness and/or uniformed services. You will need to be a strong communicator, and maintain a positive, enthusiastic attitude. You need to be able to connect and build relationships with your students and stakeholders so the ability to respect and appreciate differences is certainly a must.
Previous teaching experience is not essential but highly advantageous. All the resources will be provided to enable you to effectively deliver the programme and you will receive all the training and development opportunities required for your career development as an educator.
Required skills and experience:
A relevant tertiary qualification in sport, fitness, or uniformed services – at a minimum of level 4 or above
Proven experience within a role related to sport, fitness or uniformed services. Proven background/experience within the uniformed services (including recent veterans or reservists), law enforcement, or a related field is highly desirable
A background in the armed forces (including recent veterans or reservists), law enforcement, or a related uniformed service is highly desirable
A strong drive to develop others and prepare them to achieve and be successful
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate, mentor and inspire
A genuine interest in and passion for cultural diversity and developing relationships within the community
Group training or teaching experience in a multi-cultural environment (preferred but not essential) and the ability to work with others.
