Trainer Assessor - Trades

Salary: FTE 115,000 base + super (pro-rata for Part-time hours)

Position Summary

The Trainer and Assessor is responsible for delivering and assessing vocational education and training (VET) courses in accordance with the Standards for RTOs. The role involves engaging students through effective training methods, maintaining compliance in assessment practices, and ensuring learners are job-ready upon completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and Plan Sessions Effectively – review learning and assessment materials, prepare resources and equipment, set up safe classrooms, and tailor support based on student LLN and pre-training information.
  • Deliver Engaging, Industry-Relevant Training – facilitate interactive sessions aligned to schedules and training plans, using real-world examples and contemporary adult learning approaches.

  • Support Student Achievement – guide students through assessments and due dates, build digital literacy and LMS capability, and provide academic or wellbeing support as needed.

  • Manage Assessment and Records – mark and grade assessments on time, provide constructive feedback, maintain accurate records, and participate in validation and moderation.

  • Maintain Effective Session Management – adhere to delivery schedules, record attendance, ensure participation evidence, and maintain a safe, organised learning environment.

  • Drive Student Engagement and Recruitment – encourage course completion and progression, promote programs through industry networks, and refer prospective students appropriately and ethically.

  • Fully qualified in relevant industry with evidence provided for review and determination of suitability and currency.
  • Holds the qualification that is being delivered and assessed unless sufficient vocational experience is approved as being equivalent to this qualification level.

  • Hold current VET knowledge and evidence of how this has remained current within the last 24 months.

  • Holds the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment from the TAE Training Package, or a diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education (or the required training qualification as required by the Standards for Registered Training Organisation's (RTOs) 2015 or any legislation that is released at a later date replacing or supplementing these standards).

  • Has experience in both building, construction and teaching 

The successful candidate must hold or be willing to obtain:

  • a current Australian Federal Police (AFP) Check
     
  • a current Working With Children Check (WWCC)
