This role requires a blend of technical leadership, collaboration, and accountability to drive successful product development and team performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Collaborate: Direct a diverse squad of technical, product, and design professionals to deliver products aligned with Agile principles and RBC’s Ways of Working.

  • Technical Partnership: Serve as a trusted advisor to the Product Owner, contributing to solution design, prioritization, and the development of product features, maintenance, and evolution.

  • Requirement Translation: Convert business needs into clear technical requirements and maintain a well-organized story backlog.

  • Technical Expertise: Leverage insights from backend and frontend developers to assess complexity, determine optimal technical approaches, and ensure alignment with development practices and architectural standards.

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Foster relationships with other technology groups, manage technical dependencies, and establish clear agreements on deliverables, timelines, and responsibilities.

  • Delivery and Support: Oversee the delivery of features in production, ensuring robust quality controls, proactive monitoring, and swift issue resolution.

  • Code Quality and Best Practices: Uphold high standards for code quality, promote testing best practices, and advocate for a "shift-left" approach to quality assurance.

  • Team Leadership: Nurture a healthy and inclusive work culture, providing coaching and support to team members to foster growth and collaboration.

  • People Manager:

    • Coach & Mentor – Conduct regular 1:1s, provide ongoing feedback, and support career growth.

    • Build & Retain Talent – Lead hiring, squad composition assessment, and succession planning (grow a second in command on the squad).

    • Foster Inclusion & Growth – Create a safe, inclusive environment and drive HiPo/Talent Management initiatives.

    • Performance Management – Set clear goals, provide structured feedback, and conduct mid-year and year-end reviews.

    • Driving adoption of GenAI by equipping the squads with the right tools, building practical skills, and enabling the use of intelligent agents to improve delivery, speed, quality and innovation

What You Need:

  • Senior-level technical expertise in backend and/or frontend development, particularly with technologies like Java Springboot and/or Angular.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible language for non-technical stakeholders (e.g., product owners, business analysts).

  • Solid understanding of software design best practices, including familiarity with design patterns.

  • A string foundation in GenAI tools, hands-on experimentation, and a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing in the squad and across portfolio
