Tax Manager, Seoul, Korea
This critical position oversees the daily direct and indirect tax operations for Tesla Korea entities. The position will report to APAC Tax Director and work close with internal business operations and supporting functions, and external service vendors.
- As the Korea process owner of corporate tax reporting and tax planning, ensure all direct and indirect tax filings are reviewed, accurately and timely filed, and tax payments are timely remitted for Korea entities.
- Continuously look for ways to optimize our cash tax position in Korea.
- Oversee overall design, implementation and control of income/ indirect tax compliance processes, procedures including exercising oversight of the effectiveness of both Tax and non-Tax functions in supporting all end-to-end processes that impact Tax.
- Assist Global Tax in managing the effective tax rate, supporting transfer pricing adjustment & intercompany charges, performing tax risk management and tax compliance control.
- Monitor tax and financial legislation, determine the impact, and communicate to management the impact of any legislative changes. Ensure successful harvesting of tax incentives/ subsidy opportunities to enhance cash flow and financial positions.
- Provide solid tax positions/implications and practical advice to local business operations, supporting functions and Global Tax on financial and tax operational issues, which include but are not limited to local sales, cross border transactions, transfer pricing, etc.
- Actively participant in managing tax assessments and tax audits by interfacing with external tax authorities, government agencies, as well cross-functions and Big accounting/ Firm Tax Leaders.
- Support local treasury & banking related efforts by managing the remittance of service, dividend, interest and other payments out of Korea.
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant Tax experience in a medium to large size tax environment (both Indirect and Direct Tax) including substantial experience with a Big Four Firm or reputable MNC; experience in both Big Four and MNC would be a plus.
- Ability to adapt to complex and constantly changing, fast paced, highly demanding internal and external environments is a must for performing this job successfully.
- Tax experience in more than one APAC market (e.g. Thailand, Japan, Vietnam etc.) is highly desirable although you will be supported by external vendors.
- Ability to exercise a high degree of independent and professional judgment in performing tax reviews of new business model, transaction flow etc.
- Ability to think creatively, work efficiently and multi-tasking and as you are always required work or resolve problems within very tight schedule.
- Detailed oriented, hands on and can-do attitude are expected for this role to work as a strong independent contributor.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and pro-active attitude to work cross-functional and communicate at all levels.
- Solid and suffice accounting knowledge to support different tax positions/treatment under US GAAP or local GAAP
- Very excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Accounting/Taxation Master’s Degree, law degree, or CPA certificate or equivalent.
