About Lihir

Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Dimensions
Purpose

The Scaffold Supervisor will oversee the efficient operation of the Newmont scaffolding yard, ensuring the scaffolding equipment is properly maintained and stored safely. You will ensure material requests are managed and prioritised as per the maintenance schedule and the delivery and collection of the scaffolding materials is managed effectively.

Essential Duties
  • Lead by example with Department Safety – conducting Safety Interactions, coaching, & ensuring incidents are reported & investigated.
  • Drives and influence proactive safety behaviours within workgroups through visible safety leadership.
  • Drives compliance to standards and regulations and reviews adherence.
  • Work constructively within a diverse group of people, understand teams’ strengths and weakness.
  • Assess competency, and work with training department to identify candidates to develop and upskill.
  • Work closely with co-ordinators to understand schedule requirements and contribute to the maintenance plan.
  • Supervise a team of yard staff including training and performance management.
  • Coordinate the safe delivery and collection of scaffolding equipment to site. Ensure material requests are managed and prioritised as per the maintenance schedule
  • Keep track of material inventory, ensuring stock levels are adequate, ordering replacements when necessary
  • Regular maintenance of materials and equipment
  • Streamline process and implement efficient workflows to reduce labour costs.
Training & Experience
  • Advanced High Risk Scaffolding License required.
  • 5+ years relevant work experience essential in metals extraction and processing roles of large-scale processing plants is essential.
  • Proven competency in operations, supervisor roles including leadership and strong people management skills.
  • Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication skills.
  • Previous experience working in a remote location in a developing country advantageous, but not essential.
  • Experience working in busy scaffolding yard managing 1000t + of stock.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.
  • Discipline specific technical competence in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, & MS Project (desirable).  
  • Ability to interpret Engineering drawings, OEM manuals, and standards.
