Staff Software Data Platform Engineer
About Kontakt.io
Kontakt.io is building the platform that care operations run on.
We reduce waste, cut costs, and improve throughput in hospitals by automating and orchestrating clinical workflows. Using AI, real-time location data (RTLS), and deep EHR integration, our platform enables care teams to operate with real-time intelligence and financial discipline.
Trusted by leading U.S. health systems including HCA, Sutter Health, AdventHealth, Trinity Health, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs — and backed by Goldman Sachs — we are scaling rapidly toward the next phase of durable, disciplined hypergrowth.
Success in this position requires a strong passion for building high-performance, reliable data systems at scale. You have an internal drive to design efficient processing architectures, optimize compute workloads, and select the right tools to solve complex scalability and throughput challenges.
Our Data Platform powers the Location Engine — processing high-volume, real-time location telemetry and transforming it into reliable, production-grade services that enable location intelligence use cases across healthcare and IoT environments.
Our tech stack :
Backend / Data Platform:
Kotlin, Java 21, Spring Boot, Spring Data, Kafka Streams, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Python, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS
Infrastructure & Compute:
Kubernetes, containerized workloads, event-driven architectures, streaming pipelines, CI/CD automation
We Are Looking For Someone Who
Can independently design and implement scalable data processing systems
Understands problems from a product and system architecture perspective
Proposes pragmatic, high-impact solutions and executes them end-to-end
Thinks in terms of performance, reliability, observability, and cost-efficiency
You will be expected to
Design, build, and optimize data pipelines (streaming & batch)
Develop high-throughput microservices handling real-time location data
Define and evolve data models across MongoDB and PostgreSQL
Build and maintain event-driven systems using Kafka and Kafka Streams
Ensure low-latency, high-availability compute workloads running in Kubernetes
Establish integrations with third-party systems via REST APIs, WSS streams, Webhooks, and event-based architectures
Contribute to architectural decisions impacting scalability, resilience, and platform evolution
Write performance and load tests for compute-heavy services
Maintain and improve CI/CD workflows for reliable production deployments
Drive engineering best practices (code reviews, testability, observability, documentation)
Propose improvements aligned with modern security and distributed systems best practices
Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for platform reliability
Our requirements:
6+ years of software engineering experience
Proven experience building highly scalable, distributed systems
Strong Kafka and event-driven architecture experience
Strong microservices architecture experience
Deep knowledge of Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Data, etc.)
Experience designing streaming data pipelines
Hands-on experience deploying and operating services in AWS
Strong understanding of containerization and Kubernetes
