This is an opportunity to join a top-notch Automotive Battery Management System IC (ABMS) Design Team within Renesas Electronics America’s leading power management product line. As part of one of Renesas’s most prominent Battery and Power Solutions Design Groups, this Engineer will work on next-generation IC products for multiple fast paced consumer power products.
What we need:
The Design team is seeking a Principal Digital Design Engineer who is technically savvy and is excited about working on cutting edge Automotive power solutions for Battery Management System. You will support all design flow tasks and be the champion in managing our processes and systems, interfacing with multiple departments and external customers. Given the wide range of responsibility, we’re looking for someone eager to learn, ready to hit the ground running, and help define what Design means for Renesas. This opportunity will allow you to open pathways to by having a greater level of responsibility in the team and across Renesas. Role & Responsibilities
- Be part of a highly skilled and challenging Automotive MCU design team working on the latest Automotive BMS products.
- Collaborate with hardware architects to define safety mechanisms for MCU, Flash Subsystem (FlashSS), watchdogs, self-tests, power domains, and fault handling.
- Take ownership of safety analysis engineering methods such as FMEDA, DFA, FTA, and Dependent Failure Analysis throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Work closely with system architects, hardware designers, software teams, testing, quality, cybersecurity, and program management teams.
- Define the digital architecture and micro-architecture of IPs and their sub-functions.
- Be responsible for all aspects of digital design, from specification to silicon, including integration at the SoC level.
- Actively participate in problem-solving and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Drive innovation and develop new architectures for best-in-class solutions.
- Mentor and coach other design team members on technical topics.
- Collaborate with domain specialists across global locations on core technical initiatives.
- Work closely with analog designers to ensure smooth integration and interfaces between digital and analog circuits.
Skills Required
- Experience with functional safety mechanisms including lockstep CPUs, watchdogs, ECC, BIST/MBIST, CRC, voltage and clock monitoring, and safe state handling.
- Familiarity with microcontroller and Flash Controller architectures, with hands-on experience in microcontroller development.
- Strong understanding of safety architectures for MCUs, SoCs, and automotive ECUs.
- Experience leading a team of digital designers and collaborating with verification and physical design teams.
- Strong fundamentals in Verilog/SystemVerilog and scripting languages, timing closure, DFT, synthesis, lint, and CDC analysis.
- Working knowledge of embedded systems, microcontrollers, hardware design, and automotive software development.
- Experience with silicon bring-up and debug of the aforementioned IPs.
- Working knowledge of RTL-to-GDSII design flows.
- Experience collaborating with analog teams on mixed-signal data paths.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional and globally distributed teams.
- Demonstrated team leadership experience, including task planning and execution.

- M.S./M.Tech or B.S./B.E. in Electronics or a related field.
- 8–17 years of relevant industry experience.
