Chevron is seeking a dynamic Indirect Tax Advisor to join the Global Indirect Tax team. Chevron’s Indirect Tax organization partners with business leaders across the enterprise to shape decisions, manage indirect tax risk, and support strategic growth. This role is purely advisory, providing technical analysis, practical guidance, and forward-looking solutions across U.S. federal, state and local indirect taxes. Prior audit experience is leveraged to assess and mitigate risk; however, audit execution is not a primary responsibility.
This Advisor-level position will primarily support Chevron’s upstream, midstream, downstream, renewables, and emerging energy businesses. The role works closely with business units, tax systems teams, internal tax counsel, and external advisors to ensure indirect tax considerations are incorporated early and effectively into business initiatives, transactions, and operational changes.
The Indirect Tax Advisor serves as a trusted enterprise advisor for U.S. state and local indirect tax matters, including sales and use tax, motor fuel, excise, environmental, gross receipts, utility, and local business taxes. The role emphasizes advisory leadership, technical position development, change enablement, and governance.
Key Responsibilities
· Serve as a trusted advisor to business partners, providing guidance on indirect tax implications of sales, purchasing, and operational transactions.
· Perform high-level technical analysis of complex business operations and industry-specific tax issues across upstream, midstream, downstream, renewables, and energy businesses.
· Provide strategic guidance on indirect tax implications and represent the Indirect Tax organization in existing, new, and evolving business initiatives.
· Develop, document and communicate well-supported indirect tax positions, partnering with internal governance bodies such as the SALT counsel.
· Advise on mergers, acquisitions, and structural changes, including indirect tax due diligence, exposure assessments, and post-closing integration.
· Support new or evolving business structures, including advising on tax engine configuration, registrations, exemption certificates and permits.
· Lead indirect tax change management by guiding compliance and system modifications in response to regulatory, business or operational changes.
· Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, assess business impacts, and support timely, coordinated responses.
· Support ASC 450 considerations through modeling, documentation, and identification of potential reserve implications.
· Identify and drive tax risk mitigation and value-enablement opportunities through proactive advisory and planning activities.
· Build organizational capability through targeted training, guidance, and knowledge sharing.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance or Business
· 8+ years of experience in U.S. federal, state and local indirect tax (sales & use, excise).

· Experience with complex tax considerations relevant to manufacturing companies.
· Strong tax research and technical writing skills, including tax memoranda and position papers.
· Demonstrated ability to analyze large data sets, assess risk, and deliver practical recommendations.
