Job Description

This position will be permanently located in San Diego reporting to the Westcoast Planning Yard Homeport Manager. 

 

Within the BIW Business Operating System (BOS) this position is responsible for fulfilling the contractual requirements in the DDG Homeport supporting DDG 51 Class Ships, providing on-site liaison between BIW Planning Yard and Naval Information Warfare Systems Command (NAVWAR).  Key Responsibilities Project Execution:

  • On-site Liaison: Acting as the primary representative between the Planning Yard and NAVWAR C4I customer, ensuring real-time communication and mission alignment.
  • Contractual Obligations: Take ownership of fulfilling the specific contractual requirements and standards as outlined on the BIW BOS and DDG51 contract.
  • Strategic Alignment: Facilitate coordination between the Planning Yard and C4I Program Management to ensure a clear communication of contractual “need-by” dates and funding milestones.

Team Collaboration and Communication:

  • Conflict Resolution: Proactively identify and support the resolution of potential bottlenecks, working closely with the Planning Yard’s Program Office, Engineering and Design teams to mitigate any potential impacts on our C4I customers and their milestones.
  • Relationship Management: Proactively cultivate professional relationships among our C4I customers and Planning Yard. These partnerships will be the foundation to identifying issues, business growth opportunities and fulfilling the BOS.
  • Status Reporting: Provide clear, data-driven SITREPs to the Westcoast Operations Manager and Planning Yard stakeholders. 

Continuous Improvement:

  • Champion BIW Business Operating System principles and productivity enhancements.
  • Streamline processes to improve safety, quality, and cost-efficiency 

 

Salary Range - $135,000 to $150,000

Required/Preferred Education/Training

  • Minimum of an Associate's degree in a technical or business discipline and/or equivalent work experience, or a BIW Apprentice graduate; however, an undergraduate degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Electrical Engineering, or similar discipline is strongly preferred.

Required/Preferred Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of collective experience in Marine Engineering or Design, USN or Command Fleet Lifecycle Support in the areas of maintenance and repair required.
  • A solid Planning Yard background and understanding preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of DDG 51 Class ships, along with experienced gained in a Navy waterfront maintenance environment preferred.
  • Strong computer, oral, written, analytical and interpersonal skills, coupled with an ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and business communication tools.
  • Must be able to effectively manage priorities and meet schedule demands.
