Position Overview:

As a Senior Hardware Engineer, you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary group to conceive and design innovative Marine products.
You will work closely with both local and remote teams and outside partners to drive key aspects of product definition, design, execution and test.
You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment.

Essential Functions:

We are looking an exceptional candidate to work in a challenging, fast paced environment developing next generation Marine products.

  • Design world-class hardware, and, if applicable, software/firmware.
  • Broad cross-functional engineering influence with an emphasis on delighting customers with innovation in the consumer electronics space.
  • Complete technical ownership for the programs.
  • Lead/participate in electronic hardware design reviews.
  • Contribute to all aspects of technology readiness including manufacturability.
  • Assist with technical Research and Proof of Concept phases.

Requirements:

  • Solid understanding of fundamental circuit design and discrete electronic components.
  • Critical thinking and exceptional debugging and reasoning skills.
  • Design and clear understanding of DC/DC switch mode power supplies and topologies.
  • A good understanding of magnetic principles.
  • Understanding of MCU, LCD, memories and sensor devices.
  • EMC mitigation, cause and effect.
  • Understanding of Wifi, BT, FPGA and touch screen technologies.
  • Strong problem solving and debugging skills with a solid understanding of core engineering principles,  and analytical techniques is required.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces (ADC/DAC, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, e/DP, USB3, PCIe, MIPI, SERDES).
  • Experience with DFx (Design for Cost, Test, Manufacturing).
  • Experience developing hardware component and system level specifications.
  • Fundamental knowledge of the following HW design principles: Signal Integrity, Power Design, Computer Architecture.
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink/LabView advantageous.
  • High level of proficiency at Analog/Digital/Board simulation (ex: SPICE, HyperLynx) and solid experience with high speed analog and digital circuit design.
  • Proficient with Schematic capture and PCB layout tools, such as PADs and/or Altium.
  • Advanced experience with electronic hardware lab equipment.
  • Awareness of thermal effects and mitigation methods.
  • Awareness of international industry/regulatory standards.
  • Familiarity with revision and document control (git, cvs, clearcase, etc.)
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Innovative and proactive.
  • Leadership, coaching and mentoring skills to support Teams technical growth.
  • Experience with High level programming language with C and/or Phyton.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electronics Engineering, Masters preferred.
  • 8+ years of hands-on industry experience in complex hardware development, designing, implementing, and shipping consumer electronics products with responsibility for high quality deliverables.

Working Conditions:

  • Technical, hands-on position.
  • Working in hardware lab work with advanced Instrumentation.
  • On water testing on advanced prototypes and new products.
  • Will work mainly with the New Zealand team in office but will have occasional need to partner with colleagues abroad.
  • Occasional travel required to our MFG locations/Suppliers/other Teams.
