Your impact
Reporting to the Director External Affairs APAC, the Specialist External Affairs role is responsible for developing and implementing stakeholder engagement and government relations strategies that support Newmont’s operations across the Asia Pacific region.
You will play a key role in strengthening relationships with government stakeholders, regulators, industry bodies and policymakers while helping to identify and manage external risks. Through strategic engagement and policy insight, you will contribute to protecting and enhancing Newmont’s licence to operate and supporting the delivery of the company’s country strategies across Australia and Papua New Guinea.
As part of our team you will
- Implement government relations strategies at the national level and support provincial engagement as required with a focus on Western Australia
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, regulators, industry bodies and policymakers across Australia and PNG
- Provide advice on emerging policy, regulatory and political trends that may impact operations and projects
- Develop and execute stakeholder engagement plans aligned with enterprise strategies and standards
- Manage stakeholder mapping and maintain functional relationships across the stakeholder network
- Support national and provincial government engagement to build understanding and support for Newmont’s interests
- Implement government affairs governance frameworks and policies
- Proactively identify and mitigate external political, regulatory and reputational risks
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the Country Strategy alongside operational and functional leaders
Prerequisites for your success in the role
- Experience in government relations, public policy, external affairs or stakeholder engagement
- Strong understanding of government, regulatory and policy environments, particularly within Australia region
- Demonstrated capability in stakeholder mapping, engagement planning and advocacy
- Experience identifying and managing political, regulatory and reputational risks
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
- Ability to build trusted relationships with government officials, regulators and community stakeholders
- Tertiary qualification in law, economics, international relations, social sciences or related disciplines preferred
Your work environment
This permanent position will be offered on a flexible work arrangement based out of Newmont’s Perth office in Subiaco, Western Australia.
The position will require flexibility to travel to Newmont office and/or mine site locations on a regular as required basis, including international travel.
Full and unrestricted eligibility for employment in Australia will be essential.
