For additional information visit www.uhs.com. The Corporate Information Services Department is seeking a dynamic and talented Software Engineer II – AI Solutions. The Software Engineer II – AI Solutions will design, build, and deploy AI-driven capabilities within complex healthcare environments. In this role, you will work alongside senior engineers, clinicians, and operational teams to translate real-world problems into secure, scalable, and maintainable software. This role will help implement AI/programmatic assisted workflows, assist in cloud platform maintenance, and integrate AI models into production systems that support critical healthcare operations. This position is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of hands-on engineering, problem-solving in the field, and collaborating directly with end users to deliver high-impact solutions. Key responsibilities include: Works hands-on with clinicians, analysts, and operational teams to understand workflows, gather requirements, and translate ambiguous real-world problems into concrete technical solutions. Iterates quickly based on user feedback Develops and Implements AI/ML solutions for our operational and clinical customers with guidance from senior engineers. Supports compliance efforts by following HIPAA, GDPR, and healthcare standards (HL7, FHIR, DICOM). Designs and implements comprehensive test suites to assess the performance of deployed machine learning applications. Ensures the reliability, performance, and operational continuity of AI platforms. This includes monitoring system health, managing, resolving integration issues, and maintaining secure access controls. Proactively identify bottlenecks, optimize resource usage, and implement improvements that keep mission-critical healthcare workflows running smoothly with minimal downtime. Participates in code reviews and team discussions to improve development best practices. Stays updated on healthcare AI trends and emerging technologies. Develop and maintain AI/ML Solutions: Design and implement AI-driven capabilities that solve real operational problems in healthcare. This includes building inference pipelines, integrating models into production systems, developing interfaces, ensuring reliability, observability, and maintainability. Software Engineering: Develop scalable and modular software architectures that integrate ML models into healthcare systems. Work hands-on with clinicians, analysts, and operational teams to understand workflows, gather requirements, and translate ambiguous real-world problems into concrete technical solutions. Iterate quickly based on user feedback. Platform Maintenance: Ensure the reliability, performance, and operational continuity of AI platforms. This includes monitoring system health, managing, resolving integration issues, and maintaining secure access controls. You will proactively identify bottlenecks, optimize resource usage, and implement improvements that keep mission-critical healthcare workflows running smoothly with minimal downtime. Support compliance and interoperability: Follow HIPAA, GDPR, and healthcare standards (HL7, FHIR, DICOM) to ensure solutions meet regulatory and security requirements. Collaborate with compliance teams to stay updated on evolving regulations. ML Testing: Design and implement comprehensive test suites to assess the performance of deployed machine learning applications, pinpointing areas for enhancement and working closely with data scientists to optimize model accuracy. Collaborate across teams: Work closely with senior engineers, product managers, and healthcare professionals to align AI driven solutions with clinical workflows and healthcare IT needs. Participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing: Provide feedback to peers, incorporate best practices, and engage in discussions on improving solution reliability and maintainability. Troubleshoot and resolve software issues: Diagnose and resolve software errors, performance bottlenecks, and security vulnerabilities, ensuring high availability of healthcare services. Stay up to date with healthcare AI trends: Research emerging technologies, frameworks, and integration patterns to recommend improvements in AI development strategies. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. 3+ years of experience in AI/ML or backend development, ideally within healthcare or regulated industries. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript/Typescript. Experience with machine learning tools such as Pytorch, Tensorflow, Langchain, or Keras. Hands-on experience in designing and maintaining scalable architecture is a plus. Basic understanding of healthcare standards (HL7, FHIR, DICOM) and data privacy regulations (HIPAA, GDPR). Experience with SQL & NoSQL databases for healthcare data storage and retrieval. Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, Palantir, Databricks) Experience with the Palantir/Oracle Cloud platform is a plus, but not required Familiarity with Observability tools such as Graphana, Datadog, or Langfuse. Knowledge of microservices architecture, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) Familiarity with Large Language Models and has used them in a production environment Experience in CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, and automated deployment strategies Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot software and cloud platform level issues Strong communication skills to collaborate across teams.
