Senior Workers Compensation Specialist

The Senior Workers Compensation Specialist is responsible for the strategic oversight and day-to-day management of the organization’s workers’ compensation program. This role ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, manages complex and high-exposure claims, partners with vendors and insurers, and provides expert guidance to stakeholders to minimize risk, control costs, and support.

HYBRID WORK POLICY

Eversource supports work-life balance by offering hybrid schedules for certain roles. Eligibility is based on job responsibilities, operational needs, nature of work and team dynamics. Current guidelines require employees to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day set by the employee and supervisor based on department needs. These guidelines apply to roles approved for remote work and are subject to change,  based on managerial discretion and work performance. All applicants must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.  

Essential Functions: 

  • Manage complex, litigated and high-cost claims; collaborate closely with defense counsel, TPA’s, and Insurance Carriers.
  • Review of claim reserves, settlements, and medical treatment plans for accuracy and cost effectiveness.
  • Oversee lifecycle of claims, including investigation, medical management, return to work, closure.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance by remaining informed of any law changes relating to workers’ compensation regulations in the states of CT, NH and MA.
  • Manage excess policy and second injury fund recoupment.
  • Act as a liaison with the TPA, employee, management, legal, HR.
  • Ensure timely and proper payment and coding of Workers’ Compensation benefits.
  • Maintains confidentiality of records and evidence.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill: 

Knowledge:

  • Workers’ Compensation laws, lien statutes and other statutes
  • Working knowledge of the Law of Torts with emphasis on Law of Negligence
  • Knowledge of case interpretations which may affect the handling of Workers’ Compensation matters in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire 
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Workers’ Compensation statutes and regulatory requirements appropriately
  • Proficient skill with MS Office applications including Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of Workday/Workforce systems preferable but not required
  • Ability to apply policies and procedures and union contracts to Workers’ Compensation
  • Problem solving
  • Qualitative and quantitative analyses
  • Financial acumen including a basic understanding of financial concepts
  • Ability to act as a key liaison and to work effectively with various levels within and outside of the organization
  • Ability and willingness to handle confidential and/or sensitive matters

  • Ability to multi-task and shift among multiple priorities simultaneously

Education:     

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or the equivalent in work-related experience required                 

Experience:      

  • Minimum of five (5) or more years of workers’ compensation case management or related experience preferably in Connecticut, Massachusetts and/or New Hampshire                                                   

Licenses & Certifications:  

  • Valid motor vehicle driver's license must be held and maintained

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

$108,460.00-$120,510.00
