Senior Software Engineer

United States Work at Home Remote April 14, 2026 Full Time

At The Cigna Group, we believe people do their best work when they feel seen, supported, and empowered. Our mission is to help people improve their health and vitality, and that starts with having the right people on our team.

The Enterprise DevOps organization enables developers by making availability, security, and agility the path of least resistance. We create platforms and tools that allow engineers to focus on delivering business value while ensuring applications are reliable, secure, and easy to maintain.

The Enterprise Developer Portal Engineer designs, builds, and supports our internal developer portal, which serves as the central entry point for self‑service across CI/CD, environments, compliance, and runtime platforms. This is a full‑stack role focused on developer experience, platform integrations, and reusable “golden paths” that help engineers build and deploy software efficiently and securely.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and evolve golden paths for common developer workflows to improve productivity and consistency
  • Partner with platform and product teams to expose capabilities through the developer portal
  • Build, operate, and maintain the Backstage core platform, including backend services and proxy integrations
  • Manage configuration, secrets, authentication, and deployment pipelines
  • Implement authentication and authorization using OAuth, OpenID Connect, and SAML
  • Own and maintain the Backstage Catalog, including entity models, metadata, ownership discovery, and validation
  • Develop and manage Backstage Scaffolder templates, reference implementations, and reusable actions
  • Integrate enterprise systems such as source control, CI/CD, artifact repositories, runtime platforms, ITSM/CMDB, and observability tools
  • Create APIs, SDKs, or services (REST, GraphQL, MCP) to expose portal capabilities programmatically
  • Embed security and compliance guardrails such as secrets management, policy checks, and vulnerability scanning
  • Automate audit evidence collection across the software supply chain and portal workflows
  • Define and monitor service‑level objectives (SLOs) for portal reliability, catalog freshness, and documentation builds
  • Implement observability, dashboards, alerting, and participate in incident response and root‑cause analysis
  • Establish governance models for component ownership, lifecycle management, and contribution standards

Qualifications:

Required

  • Front‑end development using React, TypeScript, component design, and accessibility best practices
  • Back‑end development with Node.js, Express, NestJS, or similar frameworks
  • Experience working with Backstage, including Catalog, Scaffolder, TechDocs, permissions/RBAC, or plugin development
  • Integrations with tools such as GitHub or GitLab, CI/CD platforms, ServiceNow, SonarQube, artifact repositories, or observability tools
  • Understanding of identity and security concepts including OAuth/OIDC, SAML, JWT, RBAC, and secrets management
  • DevOps fundamentals including CI/CD design, Git‑based workflows, containerized applications, and observability

Preferred:

  • Experience implementing Backstage in a large or enterprise environment
  • Policy‑as‑code and compliance automation using tools such as Open Policy Agent (OPA) or Conftest
  • CMDB or ITSM integrations
