A Day in the Life
A Senior Safety Specialist (Safety Consulting-Advisory/Emergency Response) participates as a member of the Health & Safety Services group.
This position will be out of one of our North Little Rock (Arkansas) or Kemah (Texas) offices.
The incumbent will perform safety activities including site safety assessments, safety policy/program development, manage safety services projects, and safety training development and delivery. In performing such duties, a Senior Safety Specialist will support clients in safety, compliance, risk assessment, and emergency response. The successful candidate will apply best practices and compliance requirements for safety to ensure the client's expectations are met. A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to manage projects with minimal guidance and train client’s employees as directed or requested. All Safety Supervisors shall maintain a response bag with the required PPE and appropriate clothing and be subject to on-call rotation 24/7 for emergency response and frequent, extended travel.
The compensation range for this role is $70,000 to $100,000 commensurate with accomplishments, performance, credentials and geography
To thrive in this role, you’ll be comfortable taking ownership of the following responsibilities:
Provide safety support to clients in the prevention of injuries and illnesses
Provide safety support to clients to maintain regulatory and client safety compliance
Immediate availability for extended travel and emergency response at client’s request or in support of TERP
Perform duties safely to minimize threats to self and others in work settings with potential chemical, physical, biological, and safety hazards
Perform (with minimal guidance) site safety activities, including, but not limited to, safety briefings and preparation/review of project- or site-specific health and safety plans
Understand and explain the basic and with minimal guidance, the advanced concepts of anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling hazards to workers, the public, and the environment
Demonstrable ability to solve problems and make accurate and informed decisions regarding safety with minimal guidance
Compile, review, and summarize scientific/technical data and literature
Support other service areas as assigned and under the appropriate supervision
Perform all duties according to the ethics of the Safety profession
Demonstrate a professional attitude toward our clients, customers and co-workers which reflects favorably upon the company
Perform such other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene or other related field.
5+ years’ experience in a safety related role with preferable project management experience included
Advanced computer and data management skills in a Windows-based platform (required)
HAZWOPER certification (required – may be obtained post-employment)
CSP certification (preferred)
DISA and TWIC clearance (required – may be obtained post-employment)
Current, valid, unrestricted driver’s license (required)
Ability to obtain a passport
Completion of all job specific OSHA training
Ability to comply with all job specific OSHA requirements, including wearing a respirator
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a matrix reporting structure
Ability to understand the basic safety and industrial hygiene concepts of and explain (with minimal guidance) the advanced concepts of anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling hazards to workers, the general public and the environment
Ability to locate, understand and explain (with no guidance) the basic concepts of relevant OSHA regulations, other occupational health and safety standards and guidelines, including those of the ACGIH and state OSHA agencies
Ability to locate and understand the advanced concepts of relevant OSHA regulations, other occupational health and safety standards and guidelines, including those of the ACGIH; and, with minimal guidance, explain such concepts
Demonstrates the ability to successfully complete a project with minimal guidance.
Maintain active involvement in industry and/or professional organizations, keeping current on new ideas and techniques within the field of safety
Demonstrable ability (with minimal guidance) to solve problems and make accurate and informed decisions
Ability to function as an Emergency Response Team member when needed
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal directions
Strong verbal and written communication skills in the English language
Conducts work assignments of minimal complexity
Contributes to specific Safety objectives and outcomes
Works independently with little supervision
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Lifting to 50 pounds several times a day

Rarely may work shifts of up to 24 hours in duration
Dress out in physically demanding personal protective equipment (PPE) for site entry at HAZWOPER sites as required under 29CFR 1910.120
Wear half-face and full-face air purifying respirator (APR) as well as supplied air respirators in the form of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and hose supplied respirator with medical clearance as required under 29CFR 1910.134
Wear partially or totally encapsulating personal protective equipment
Works in an office environment when not deployed on an emergency response
May work outdoors and may be exposed to hot and cold environments and extreme weather conditions,
including sunlit, rainy and windy conditions
May occasionally work shifts up to 24 hours in duration
Encounter environments presenting physical hazards of uneven ground, standing water, ditches, dusty
conditions, rapidly moving transportation and equipment, and physical stress associated with wearing personal protective equipment
May work at altitudes greater than 5000 feet above sea level
May work on land, sea, or air
May work in a setting with potential physical and chemical hazards
Frequent, extended travel
