Senior Product Owner - Deposits Product Development

Business Banking (BB) manages relationships with Commonwealth Bank’s small-medium enterprise customers, mid-market corporate customers, and regional and agribusiness customers, providing a wide range of financial services and solutions. It also services our personal and institutional online trading customers.

The Deposit and Transactions team is accountable for the development and management of all cash management accounts and their associated customer experiences across these segments.

The Product Owner (PO) role will report to the Crew Lead and lead the Deposits Product Development squad within the Crew. The PO will be accountable for setting a multi-year strategic vision and quarterly roadmap, based on customer insights, sound commercial management, and linked back to the Business Bank and organisational strategies. The role is accountable for delivering against the Savings and Deposit roadmaps, managing risk and regulatory obligations, and ensuring our products retain strong product/market fit. You will collaborate with core P&L squads, Customer Journey and delivery Product Squads in the Crews, other BB Crews and business stakeholders and is expected to have highly advanced influencing skills.

You will drive a quarterly prioritisation process for their squad, manage a backlog of initiatives and define metrics and outcomes that align to our strategy. The PO is accountable for managing the squad’s performance to defined objectives and leading the squad’s delivery against prioritised initiatives.

Do Work That Matters

  • Lead and develop the product roadmap, and engagement with senior stakeholders/business units (Business and Technology) to execute the delivery of the product roadmap.
  • Manage change, product development and delivery by having the change process well understood and defined, and the product designed and delivered with resources (including Technology where applicable).
  • Deliver operational risk and issue management for owned or managed controls and management of execution risks/issues.
  • Define relevant roadmaps, product vision and how deposit products will be managed within channels, aligned to Crew objectives and purpose, and engage with key stakeholders (Business and Technology) to manage its delivery.​
  • Accountable for end-to-end value delivery and product lifecycle management (including managing requirements lifecycle, production deployment and release day coordination and sign off). Works with the squad and the crew to determine who is best to perform change request and delivery framework related administrative tasks.​
  • Act as the voice of the customer and business and translate this for the squad.​
  • Apply expertise to support prioritisation, balance trade-offs, and explore strategies to successfully achieve business and customer outcomes.​
  • Accountable for addressing impediments, driving decisions and resolving escalations.​
  • Drive product exploration (e.g. using design thinking and analytics) and formulate hypotheses to validate product strategy / design.
  • Engage with core banking and DMMS suppliers, delivering and maintaining both product improvements and platform security and safety outcomes
  • Ensure all obligations across customer, regulatory, internal policy and process frameworks (e.g. PDDP, CMRS, SDLC) are fully met and satisfied.​
  • Identify, articulate and manage risks, dependencies and compliance across streams of work (e.g. customer propositions).​
  • Maintain a healthy and prioritised backlog to deliver business and customer outcomes.​
  • Manage senior business and technical stakeholders to ensure that prioritisation is understood and agreed to.​
  • Manage the squad’s performance to defined objectives including OKR tracking, etc.​
  • Drive squad effectiveness and agile maturity (i.e. sprint burn down, release burn up, and squad/team health) in partnership with Agile Coaches and Performance Leads.

  • Experience working in an agile environments and core banking required.
  • Prior experience in financial services or related field.
