Senior Manager Strategic Policy
See yourself in our team
Sitting within the Group Strategy function, the Strategic Policy team shapes the Group’s position on the public policy issues that matter most to CBA’s long-term strategy. We work across the Bank and with a diverse network of external stakeholders to connect ideas, people and opportunities that can influence positive change.
The team is highly collaborative, expert in cross-sector engagement, and thrives in the uncertainty and ambiguity that characterise complex policy issues.
Do work that matters
This is a high-trust role at the intersection of strategy, policy and execution. You will help the team identify and progress the issues, relationships and engagement opportunities that matter most to Australia and to CBA.
This role is less about owning a narrow technical policy portfolio and more about creating the conditions for influence through trusted relationships, well-run forums, sharp briefings, strong internal connectivity and disciplined follow-through.
Your responsibilities
Build and manage strategic relationships with external stakeholders, including think tanks, researchers, experts, officials and industry participants.
Design and deliver roundtables, forums and speaker engagements that advance the team’s influence agenda, including logistics, briefing materials, documentation and outcomes reporting.
Prepare clear, well-judged briefings for team leaders and other senior stakeholders.
Draft papers, presentations, internal communications, and material for executive audiences.
Work across the seams of the Bank to connect teams, align work on strategic priorities and help drive execution.
Bring sound judgement, discretion and initiative to sensitive stakeholder engagement and time-critical work.
Contribute to a high-performing team culture aligned to the Group’s values, leadership principles and risk culture.
We’re interested in hearing from people who have
Experience in strategy, public policy, government and public affairs, stakeholder engagement, corporate affairs, regulatory affairs, or consulting.
Strong policy literacy and the ability to understand emerging issues and their implications for a large financial institution.
Excellent written communication skills, including experience preparing high-quality briefings and strategic documents for senior audiences.
A track record of setting up successful meetings, forums or stakeholder engagements and turning discussions into outcomes.
Strong judgement, discretion and confidence working with senior and sensitive stakeholders.
A proactive, low-ego approach, creative initiative, strong organisational skills, and a reputation for getting things done.
Desirable
Familiarity with CBA and its organisational processes and ways of working.
Experience working on complex public policy reform, innovation or strategic engagement issues.
Familiarity with key developments in public policy in Australia and globally, and their implications for financial services.
You past experience should demonstrate your ability to deliver with excellence. What matters most is that you can build trust, work across boundaries, think clearly, write well and make things happen.
