About the role
Senior Energy Solutions Engineer
Reporting into the Project Development Team, the Senior Project Development Engineer (SPDE) is the primary technical advisor supporting AGL’s sales organisation, responsible for securing high‑value Commercial & Industrial (C&I) energy solutions by leading the technical solution development and evaluation phases of the sales process.
This role positions AGL at the forefront of the C&I market by bridging customer requirements, technical feasibility, and commercial outcomes. The SPDE works closely with Sales, Engineering, Bid Management, and Delivery teams, acting as a trusted technical authority and solution advocate throughout the customer engagement lifecycle. The role creates business and customer value by deeply understanding customer problems and identifying optimal technical solutions.
Key accountabilities of this role
Lead technical solution development by scoping customer requirements, developing concept designs and preliminary cost estimates aligned to SLAs, commercial objectives and AGL capabilities.
Drive technical excellence through high‑quality proposal inputs that clearly articulate solution architecture, engineering scope, and delivery considerations.
Act as the technical advisor to customers and sales teams, presenting solutions, supporting technical negotiations, and enabling effective solution‑based selling through tools and training.
Embed safety, risk and governance by applying safety‑in‑design principles and ensuring contractor engagement aligns with AGL’s Contractor Management Framework.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with project engineers and project managers to ensure solutions are practical, optimised for delivery, and seamlessly transitioned from sales to execution.
About you
What you will bring:
Proven EPC project development experience, with demonstrated success delivering awarded technical designs and accurate cost estimates across engineering, equipment, civil and mechanical scopes for solar, BESS, EV Charging and other renewable project valued between $5M–$20M.
Strong technical capability in distributed energy resources, including solar, battery storage, underpinned by deep knowledge of electrical power systems and high‑voltage distribution design.
Ability to define and articulate end‑to‑end technical solutions, developing initial scope and concept designs and clearly communicating solution benefits to customers and internal stakeholders.
Highly organised, detail‑driven and commercially astute, with strong value‑engineering skills and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders, competing priorities and complex bid environments.
Credible and influential communicator, with outstanding presentation and negotiation skills, supported by proficiency in relevant design and modelling tools (e.g. Helioscope, AutoCAD, MS Project) and an Electrical Engineering qualification with a strong track record in delivering solar and battery storage.
