What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

  • Proactively investigate Fraud & Abuse risks across product surfaces, including account takeover, content abuse, bots attacks, account subscriptions abuse, and emerging abuse vectors.

  • Monitor signals and trends to identify new or evolving abuse patterns before they escalate into major incidents.

  • Engage early with product teams to review new features and surfaces for potential abuse risks, helping embed safety and fraud considerations into design decisions.

  • Build and improve detection alerts, anomaly signals, and logging to strengthen early identification of fraud and safety risks.

  • Support threat modeling and risk assessments for new launches, especially where new capabilities may introduce novel vulnerabilities.

  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering, product, policy, and operations to implement scalable abuse mitigations across systems and workflows.

  • Lead proactive abuse mitigation efforts by identifying emerging abuse vectors, rallying teams around risk areas, and driving detection and prevention improvements through post-incident learnings.

  • Contribute to improving T&S tooling, detection systems, and operational processes to better prevent and mitigate fraud and abuse at scale.

You're probably a match if

  • You have 3–5 years of experience in security engineering, abuse prevention, fraud detection, or related domains.

  • You have strong investigative skills with the ability to analyse logs and identify abuse patterns.

  • You have working knowledge of SQL and basic data analysis to support investigations and signal validation.

  • You are familiar with product telemetry and common abuse signals (e.g. login anomalies, automation patterns).

  • You are comfortable writing and reviewing code in Python, Java, or equivalent.

  • You have the ability to collaborate effectively with Data Scientists and Analytics Engineers when deeper analysis is required.

  • You have interest in engaging with product teams to identify and mitigate abuse risks in new features.

  • You have hands-on experience using AI in your work to drive greater impact

To safeguard our community, our T&S teams build and improve systems that protect user safety across accounts, content, data, and privacy. We work to prevent, detect, and mitigate abuse and fraud that could compromise trust in Canva, including harmful content, bots, account misuse, accounts fraud, and other evolving abuse vectors.


About the Role
As a Security Engineer in Trust & Safety, you’ll investigate abuse patterns, improve detection signals, and help strengthen scalable defenses against evolving fraud and abuse risks. You’ll work at the intersection of security engineering, analytics, and product trust, contributing to systems that help Canva stay ahead of emerging abuse vectors.

This role is ideal for someone with solid security fundamentals and strong analytical thinking skills, who enjoys digging into data, refining signals, and collaborating with product and engineering teams to improve detection quality and reduce risk at scale.
