Your Role:

As a Scientist II – Automation/Assay Integration, you will work on innovative projects involving automating molecular, protein, and cell-based assays using advanced technologies using liquid handling, detection and analysis platforms to deliver novel approaches for sample to answer workflows. Embedded in our Burlington MA, Biology R&D team, you will work closely with assay scientists, engineers and software experts on current and next generation technology building towards the Lab of the Future. 

 

Additionally, you will contribute to the evaluation of new technologies, provide expertise in roadmap activities and execute Proof of Concept and development projects focused on breakthrough innovation. 

Responsibilities:

  • Use automation tools and approaches to build and verify a variety of assays (protein, molecular and cell-based assays) to support sample-to-analysis workflows and new cell models
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in using automation and detection/analysis tools
  • Work closely with platform engineering to evaluate and incorporate new innovative tools into automation platforms adding to the value of the overall workflows
  • Become a primary resource to code automation routines in Python and use AI generated protocols to create and optimize steps in automation protocols
  • Leverage LLM and other AI tools to test and expand automation protocol portfolio
  • Work with marketing and development teams to generate requirements for new breakthrough projects related to automation and detection/quantification
  • Provide technical review and execution expertise for incremental and breakthrough concepts

 

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, or other Life Science field
  • 3+ years of experience working with automated systems including use/integration of robotic arms, liquid handling and detection/analysis platforms in life science research
  • Strong background in experimental biology and assay development (e.g., molecular biology, cell-based assays, immunoassays, or similar), aligned to MilliporeSigma’s broad product portfolio
  • Direct experience and/or deep understanding of designing and automating assays that pharma and biotech companies implement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven hands-on experience in designing, executing, and analyzing experiments that demonstrate product performance or develop new applications. (i.e Research Development Scientist/Field Applications Scientist)
  • Programming experience in creating python scripts and building well developed prompt for LLM’s
  • Ability to lead and manage projects independently and prepare presentations or project outputs to leadership with minimal input from manager
  • Ability to see beyond obvious benefits of automation to enable the Lab of the Future
  • Proven track record of managing projects with moderate complexity and delivering high-quality results
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and independently on projects with little daily oversite
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to contribute to long-term planning
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data-driven decision-making
  • Ability to assess and evaluate new technologies

 

Pay Range for this position: $83,000 - $126,800
