About the role:
The Retail Sales Manager will be responsible for driving sales growth, managing retail operations, and building strong customer relationships within the medical device category in DTC (direct to consumer) channels. This role requires a strategic leader with proven experience in retail sales, trade marketing knowledge is highly desirable, Gross to Net acumen, a deep understanding of healthcare products, and the ability to lead a team toward achieving ambitious revenue targets.
Your key duties and responsibilities:
- Develop and execute retail sales strategies to achieve company objectives.
- Monitor sales performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Recruit, train, and mentor retail sales staff.
- Set clear performance goals and conduct regular evaluations.
- P&L management to properly and accordingly maximize Gross To Net investment
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and customer focus.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with retail partners (i.e. pharmacies, medical device shops)
- Ensure exceptional customer service and product knowledge across all DTC channels.
- Address customer inquiries and resolve issues promptly.
- Analyze market trends, competitor activities, market audits and customer feedback.
- Provide insights to senior management to guide product development and pricing strategies.
Skills & Experience:
Sales & Business Acumen
- Strong ability to develop and execute sales strategies.
- Skilled in forecasting, pipeline management, gross to net execution and revenue growth.
- Negotiation and contract management expertise.
Health Care Knowledge (ideally Medical Devices)
- Pharmaceutical (Rx or OTC) and/or Medical devices direct to consumer sales experience and interaction with pharmacists and procurement staff
- Ability to explain complex technical details in simple, persuasive terms.
- Familiarity with healthcare regulations and compliance standards.
Leadership & People Management
- Proven experience in recruiting, training, and motivating sales teams.
- Coaching skills to improve performance and product knowledge.
- Conflict resolution and team-building abilities
- Ability to manage long sales cycles and nurture key accounts.
- Customer-centric mindset focused on satisfaction, retention and if applicable, expansion
Analytical & Strategic Thinking
- Competence in analysing market trends and competitor activity.
- Data-driven decision-making to refine sales strategies.
- Ability to identify new opportunities and adapt to changing market conditions.
- Ability to tailor messaging to different stakeholders (pharmacists / consumers vs. procurement teams.
Qualifications/Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, life sciences, or biomedical engineering. Advanced degrees (MBA, MSc) are often preferred.
- Industry Experience: 5–10 years in sales, with at least 3–5 years in medical devices or healthcare-related industries.
- Leadership Experience: Prior management of sales teams, ideally in a regulated industry.
- Track Record: Demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding sales targets in competitive markets.
Travel Requirements:
- Position may involve travel up to 50% of the time, mostly within Region North, but mainly in Mexico to interact with procurement staff, Directors where applicable and supervise field (trade marketing) executions.
Working Conditions:
- Hybrid working – 3 number of days per week in the office driven by business requirements as Convatec has a flexible approach to office working.
