Job Summary
The van Galen lab invites applicants for a research lab technician position.Duties include preparing basic solutions and performing base-level procedures as assigned (i.e. pipetting, cell and tissue culture etc.); setting up and performing a variety of routine tests and experiments following established methodologies; analyzing results, and may begin interpretation of results; preparing and maintaining tissue cultures; preparing lab reagents, chemicals, instruments, and equipment; assisting with organizing materials for publication or presentation; and, maintaining and ordering supplies. Four-year degree required.
Qualifications
Duties
- Prepares basic solutions and performs base-level procedures as assigned (i.e. pipetting, cell and tissue culture etc.)
- Sets up and performs a variety of routine tests and experimentsfollowing established methodologies
- Conducts analysis of results, and may begin interpretation of results
- Prepares and maintains tissue cultures
- Prepares lab reagents, chemicals, instruments and equipment
- May perform independent literature searches
- Assists with organizing materials for publication or presentation
- Maintains and orders supplies
- May assist with the following:
- Execute protocols of non-routine experiments
- Assist PI with determining the most suitable methodology
- Perform basic design and modification of protocols
- Calculate, transcribe and analyze data
- Prepare and present reports
- Organize and summarize acquired data, using scientific and statistical techniques
- Organize and/or drafts material for the preparation of research papers, manuscripts, or other documents for publication and/or presentation
- Participate in the design of experiments or field work
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a related science
- 0-1 yrs of experience. Some lab experience strongly preferred.

- Working knowledge of clinical research protocols
- Must be able to perform multiple tasks with some direction
- Ability to methodically record data and to analyze data using statistics
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to perform routine tests and to prioritize work
- Understanding of molarity and other relevant formulas
- Ability to interpret acceptability of data results
- Working knowledge of data management programs
- Demonstrated competence in research techniques and methodologies
- Experience with mouse handling
