Job Description:

The Geological Research Associate focuses on hydrology, aquifers, water-supply modeling, and subsurface systems essential to implementing Act 458’s statewide water-planning mandate. The role sits at the intersection of geology, hydrology, and data science. The Research Associate will support regional water-district design, groundwater monitoring, and statewide assessments through the Louisiana Geological Survey and affiliated academic units. Supports the Louisiana Geological Survey and C&E with hydrologic modeling, aquifer assessments, saltwater intrusion analysis, and groundwater planning. Develops maps, models, technical memos, and scientific analyses used to support Act 458’s statewide water-resource planning responsibilities. The Geological Research Associate helps Louisiana build the scientifically rigorous hydrologic foundation required for responsible growth, industrial development, and long-term water security.

Job Responsibilities:

-Produce hydrologic and geologic assessments for statewide and regional water planning. (25%)

-Support the Natural Resources Commission with groundwater data, aquifer characterization, and water-availability projections.(20%)

-Aid in modeling supply/demand, recharge rates, groundwater withdrawals, saltwater intrusion, and critical-area delineation. (15%)

-Integrate well logs, monitoring data, and geological datasets into decision tools for water-resource management. (15%)

-Develop maps, dashboards, and geospatial products used in permitting, planning, and long-term supply management. (10%)

-Provide technical input into stewardship of water-related legacy assets and mineral/water co-development challenges. (10%)

-Other duties as assigned. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in a related field or a bachelor's degree and two years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in related field; Geology or hydrology graduate student or post-graduate researcher; familiarity with Louisiana groundwater systems is a major bonus; strong GIS, modeling, and field-data interpretation skills.
