PURPOSE:

The West Africa Gender Justice Coordinator will lead and support the integration of gender equality, inclusion, and protection principles across all programs and operations in fragile and conflict-affected states. This role ensures that humanitarian and development interventions are gender-responsive inclusive, and aligned with donor, organizational, and international standards. The coordinator will work closely with country teams, technical leads (MEAL, Safeguarding, Grants, Compliance), and local partners to strengthen gender mainstreaming, design targeted gender initiatives, and build capacity for staff and partners to promote equity and justice in programming and organizational culture.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strategy and Leadership
    • Lead the contextualization of World Renew’s global gender strategy and policy for the region.
    • Provide technical guidance including development of tools, templates, workshops to integrate gender equity and inclusion across humanitarian, development, and Peace programs.
    • Advise leadership and technical teams on emerging trends and opportunities to advance gender-responsive programming.
  • Program Design and Implementation
    • Support the design of new projects and proposals to ensure gender analysis, indicators, and approaches are integrated.
    • Develop tools, frameworks, and guidelines for gender-sensitive program implementation and monitoring.
    • Review existing projects and programs and propose changes to strengthen gender equality considerations.
    • Support targeted gender justice initiatives (e.g., economic empowerment, gender-based violence programming, inclusion of marginalized groups).
  • Capacity Building and Advisory Support
    • Build the capacity of staff, partners, and communities on gender integration, equity, and inclusion principles.
    • Facilitate gender capacity assessments, trainings, workshops, and coaching sessions to enhance gender sensitivity and competency.
    • Support peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing across country teams.
    • Contribute to World Renew’s Gender Technical Working group and community of practice.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning
    • Collaborate with the MEAL team to integrate and monitor gender-transformative indicators and tools in program monitoring.
    • Lead gender assessments, evaluations, and research to inform evidence-based programming.
    • Document and share lessons learned, best practices, and success stories internally and externally.
  • Advocacy and Partnerships
    • Represent the organization in gender-focused forums, clusters, and networks at regional and national levels.
    • Build strategic partnerships with women’s rights organizations, FBO’s, governments, community-based groups, and gender justice networks.
    • Support advocacy efforts to promote policies and practices that advance gender equity and justice.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED:

5. Strong understanding of gender equality frameworks, protection principles, and international standards (e.g., IASC Gender Guidelines, SPHERE).

6. Proven ability to develop and deliver gender-focused training and technical guidance.

7. Familiarity with donor requirements (USAID, ECHO, UN agencies, GAC, FCDO, CFGB) regarding gender and inclusion.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Sociology, Development Studies, or a related field Master’s degree preferred.

2. 5+ years of experience in gender mainstreaming, gender justice programming, or protection roles, preferably in humanitarian or fragile contexts.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

•Fluency in English and French is required.
