Regional EHS Manager
Location: Regional - North Carolina/Virginia
Travel: Up to 60%-70% (Road trip, anyone?)
Reports to: Senior Director of EHS
Are you the person who spots a trip hazard from a mile away? Do you believe that "Safety First" isn't just a slogan on a dusty poster, but a way of life? If you’re a high-energy safety professional who loves to lead, mentor, and ensure everyone goes home exactly the way they arrived, then GFL Environmental is looking for you!
We are looking for a Regional EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) Manager to be the strategic backbone of our safety culture across the Virginia and North Carolina region. You won’t just be enforcing rules; you’ll be building a movement.
The Mission: What You’ll Be Doing
As our Regional EHS Manager, you are the ultimate protector of our people and our planet. You’ll be the "Safety North Star" for multiple facilities, ensuring we remain the gold standard in the solid waste industry.
Culture Architect: You’ll drive a "Safety First" mindset across several sites. You're a coach, an influencer, and they are not compliance officers.
The Auditor's Eye: Conduct high-level site inspections and audits. You’ll identify risks before they become issues and turn "we’ve always done it this way" into "we’re doing it the safest way."
Incident Investigator: When things go sideways, you’re the lead detective. You’ll perform root-cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions so we never make the same mistake twice.
Regulatory Guru: Stay ahead of the curve on OSHA, DOT, and local regulations. You ensure our facilities are not just compliant, but exemplary.
Training Trailblazer: Develop and deliver engaging, high-impact safety training programs that actually stick. No boring slide decks allowed!
What You Bring to the Table
We need a mix of technical expertise, regulatory savvy, and "people person" energy. Here is what we’re looking for in our next safety champion:
The Experience: You’ve spent 5–7+ years in the EHS field, ideally within the industrial, waste management, or logistics sectors.
The Credentials: You’ve got the "alphabet soup" behind your name—CSP, CHMM, or ASP certifications are highly preferred and show you know your stuff.
The Knowledge Base: You’re a walking encyclopedia of OSHA and EPA standards. If you also have experience with Solid Waste or DOT regulations, you’re already at the top of our list.
The Communication Style: You’re a professional chameleon who can present safety metrics to the executive team and then hop into the shop to talk shop with a Diesel Mechanic five minutes later.
The Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related science-heavy field.
The Road Warrior Spirit: You aren't a fan of being chained to a desk. With up to 70% travel, you’re ready to hit the road and support our teams across the region.
Why You’ll Love the GFL Life
We work hard, we play hard, and we take care of our own.
"At GFL, safety isn't a department—it's our pulse. As a Regional EHS Manager, you have the autonomy to make real changes and the support of a world-class leadership team."
Competitive Salary & Bonus: We value your expertise and pay accordingly.
Full Benefits: Top-tier health, dental, vision, and a 401(k) with a company match that actually moves the needle.
Career Growth: We are growing fast and there is always a path forward here.
The Culture: We are "Green For Life." We’re proud of what we do for the environment and even prouder of how we protect our team.
