Job Summary:

We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert in Telecom OSP Engineering for Design, Planning, and Permitting with 3–7 years of experience. The role involves network design, regulatory compliance, technical leadership, quality assurance, and team collaboration, with a focus on continuous improvement and mentoring junior engineers in OSP practices and standards.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • OSP Network Design and Planning:
    • Develop detailed designs and plans for outside plant networks, including fiber optic and copper cable routes, equipment placements, and network topologies.
    • Conduct site surveys, infrastructure assessments, and strategic planning for future growth.
  • Permitting and Regulatory Compliance:
    • Lead the permitting process for OSP projects, coordinating with local authorities, government agencies, and private entities to secure necessary permits and approvals.
    • Ensure all designs and plans strictly comply with local, state, and federal regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Provide in-depth knowledge of OSP engineering principles, standards, and best practices.
    • Guide the team in applying engineering standards and innovative solutions to optimize network performance and reliability.
  • Collaboration and Coordination:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including construction crews, field engineers, and other SMEs, to integrate design, planning, and permitting activities into overall project execution.
  • Quality Assurance and Control:
    • Review and approve OSP design documents, plans, and permits to ensure adherence to quality standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Conduct inspections and audits to verify compliance during the construction phase.
  • Project Management Support:
    • Assist project managers with scope definition, resource planning, and timeline development.
    • Provide technical guidance and input throughout the project lifecycle to ensure smooth execution.
  • Cost Estimation and Budgeting:
    • Prepare cost estimates and budgets for OSP projects, covering materials, labor, and permitting fees.
    • Identify opportunities for cost savings while maintaining quality and compliance.
  • Stakeholder Communication and Reporting:
    • Act as the primary point of contact for all permitting-related communications.
    • Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders on project progress, permitting status, and potential risks.
  • Training and Mentorship:
    • Provide training and mentorship to junior engineers and other team members on OSP design, planning, and permitting processes.
    • Share best practices and knowledge regarding regulatory changes and industry trends.
  • Risk Management and Mitigation:
    • Identify potential risks associated with design, construction, and permitting.
    • Develop strategies to mitigate risks and ensure project timelines are met.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay updated with the latest developments in telecom OSP technologies, permitting regulations, and industry standards.
    • Recommend improvements to design, planning, and permitting processes.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-7 years of experience in telecom OSP engineering, with a specific focus on network design, planning, and permitting.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of OSP engineering principles, standards, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in relevant design and planning software, including AutoCAD, GIS, and other OSP tools.
  • Experience in applying lean methodologies to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and ensure designs meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Commitment to staying updated with industry trends and applying best practices to improve processes.
  • Proven experience in obtaining permits and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
