Process & Insights Engineer - Store Operations - Seattle
Job Description
Are you obsessed with redefining the landscape of retail operations? Do you want to be part of a company revolutionizing modern retailing? Since 1901, Nordstrom has been committed to providing customers with the best possible service and experience in fashion. We have a relentless drive to exceed customer expectations. We continue to grow and evolve to remain the best in the eyes of our customers. Our goal is to be the best fashion retailer in a digitally connected world. Be a change leader at Nordstrom.
Store Operations is building a strategic programs team to lead the transformation of store fulfillment. The Process & Insights Engineer plays a critical role in enabling both near-term performance and long-term transformation by owning ambiguous problem statements, integrating data with site-visits and hands-on learning, and diagnosing operational root causes to shape the path forward with both near-term and long-term deliverables. This role operates at the intersection of operations, analytics, and systems, partnering with program managers, product, tech and store ops field teams to identify risks, diagnose root causes, size opportunities, and measure impact. The analyst helps ensure that both daily performance management and multi-year transformation efforts are grounded in operational truth and measurable outcomes.
This role reports to the Sr Mgr Program Mgmt. and serves as a shared process & analytical partner across fulfillment program areas, ensuring insights flow from day-to-day execution into roadmap and capability decisions and enablement.
A day in the life…
· Operations Performance Insights & Automation: Use scalable data tools to support analysis tied to building new capabilities, pilot tracking, and performance issues to support program objectives, leveraging automation where possible to improve speed and access to information. Translate findings into clear decision points, tradeoffs, and recommended actions for program and ops leaders. Support scaled events readiness and execution through proactive risk id and scenario analysis.
· Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with Product, Technology, Supply Chain, Transportation, Inventory, and Store Operations partners to align insights with operational realities. Devote regular time on-site in stores to build credibility with both technical and non-technical partners and demonstrate a deep understanding of store operations, systems, and fulfillment workflows.
· Hands-On Problem Solving: Apply various methods (A3, Gemba Walks, process mapping, etc.) to connect data to real-world situations and process flows in fulfillment operations. Leverage problem solving techniques to connect data to workflows and inform decisions that will address root causes and improve program performance.
· Change Management: Support the change journey, engaging and equipping frontline teams and leaders with the tools and training for successful adoption. Develop and maintain standard work, job aids, and process documentation as part of pilot, testing, training, and adoption.
You own this if you have…
· 5-10 years of Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering experience; with 3-5 years in omnichannel retail operations, store operations, supply chain, last-mile, or a related environment preferred.
· Bachelors’ degree in Industrial and System Engineering, Masters in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, or equivalent preferred.
· Experience owning and diagnosing complex operational problems by examining end-to-end flow, capacity, bottlenecks, and failure modes. Demonstrated application of structured problem-solving techniques (e.g., A3, process mapping, 5 Whys) to connect data to real-world workflows, identify root causes, and recommend actions that improve performance and reduce variability.
· A working understanding of order management, store inventory movement + accuracy, routing, and fulfillment workflows, even if you are not the system owner. Must be comfortable learning by going on-site, observing workflows, and pressure testing data against reality.
· Tools used to support operational problem solving: proficiency in Excel; experience with BI or analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar) and automation programs such as Python & SQL is a plus. Hands-on experience supporting real operational decisions with the ability to size tradeoffs, risks, and constraints matters more than depth of knowledge in a single platform or system.
· Experience working with messy real-world operational data where orders move across multiple systems and execution relies on both system logic and manual processes. You can trace issues end-to-end, identify where breakdowns occur, and clearly explain what’s happening, why it matters, and what to do next.
· Ability to collaborate with Product, Technology, UX, and Business partners to solve impactful problems across multiple initiatives, with an understanding of AI-driven solutions. You know how to adapt the same insight for different audiences and are comfortable using visuals, plain language, and executive-level synthesis depending on the audience and context.
· The ability to stay structured in a fast-paced retail environment, remaining organized and analytical through peak periods, high-visibility escalations, and rapidly shifting priorities. You can balance speed with accuracy and communicate clearly when decisions need to be made quickly, while clearly stating assumptions or limitations.
· A bias for action and continuous improvement by looking for opportunities to simplify processes, improve reporting, and apply automation or AI-assisted tools where they deliver real value.
